At a townhall meeting in Johnstown, PA yesterday, Barck Obama made the following statement:
“When it comes specifically to HIV/AIDS, the most important prevention is education, which should include — which should include abstinence education and teaching the children — teaching children, you know, that sex is not something casual. But it should also include — it should also include other, you know, information about contraception because, look, I’ve got two daughters. 9 years old and 6 years old. I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby. I don’t want them punished with an STD at the age of 16. You know, so it doesn’t make sense to not give them information.”
There are sooooooooo many things I want to YELL at Barack right now. Here are a few:
Barack, you talk about teaching values and morals, that’s great. However, your teaching needs some updating because you have left out the end part where if you live short of values and morals, there are CONSEQUENCES! Let me enlighten you on the difference between”Punishment” and “Consequence.” “Punishment” is something that is done to you, “Consequence” is the result of something that you have done. I understand how you easily confuse these concepts as you believe that you are being “punished” for standing by Jeremiah Wright when in fact you are suffering the “consequences” of your action of continuing to support his black liberation theology.
Speaking of “values and morals” Barack, what “morals and values” would you be teaching your daughters? Would those include the following from the father of Black liberation Theology?
* “Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him.”
* “All white men are responsible for white oppression.”
* “While it is true that blacks do hate whites, black hatred is not racism.”
* “Theologically, Malcolm X was not far wrong when he called the white man “the devil.””
* “The black theologian must reject any conception of God which stifles black self-determination by picturing God as a God of all peoples.”
* “We have had too much of white love, the love that tells blacks to turn the other cheek and go the second mile. What we need is the divine love as expressed in black power, which is the power of blacks to destroy their oppressors, here and now, by any means at their disposal.”
If so, I guess I understand your confusion about punishment and consequence. In the world of your theology, all problems have been created by “white” people. Hey Barack, how does that work when your ancestry is part “white” and part “black?”….oh, that’s a whole other issue…..
Finally, and this one is very personal. Barack, you seem to assume that the only way “not to be punished with a baby” is to have an abortion. Barack, are you not familiar with the process of adoption? Barack, are you not aware of the many families waiting to adopt…especially INFANTS of any race! Barack, after many years of expensive, impersonal and emotionally wrenching infertility treatments, my wife (God bless her because I certainly didn’t have the vision) believed that the way for us to have a family was through adoption. Barack, because a HIGHSCHOOL STUDENT decided not to PUNISH THE BABIES and chose instead to inconvenience herself for a short while (note that was INCONVENIENCE and not PUNISH herself), we have twin sons. Sons from a girl who, I thank God regularly, chose to find solutions to the consequences of her choices that were good not just for her selfish motivations, but were good for both she and her sons.
Barack, the more I hear from you, the more your anthem of “Hope and Change” sound hollow. The only “Hope” you truly have is for your own political aspirations. Your “change” is only focused on finding more people to blame to avoid the consequences of individual choices.
Grow up! Choices in life have consequences. If you haven’t learned that by now I surely don’t want you anywhere near the oval office!
Which is why he said he wants to arm the kids with all the knowledge so they don’t have to deal with the consequences, so they can make the right choices moron
No, according to Webster a “Moron” is: a person who is notably stupid or lacking in good judgment. That sounds much more like the person who believes that the result of one’s own choice is a “punishment” rather than a “consequence.”
Thank you for posting your comment!! My husband and I are waiting to adopt a baby right now and the “punished by a baby” comment just breaks my heart.
Wow, I think you are taking what he said out of context. If you read the next sentence you can see that he was referring to acquiring a sexually transmitted disease such as AIDS, which is the “punishment” of not having protective sex. The whole answer was about HIV/AIDS. He was not sayPennsylvaniaing that it is punishment to have a baby. Get real. But he is saying that he does not want his girls to receive AIDS and a baby because they made a mistake. Furthermore, he first discusses abstinence, which was obmitted from the quote. He said that is the best practice, and that we should train our children to follow moral practices of abstinence. But, if they stray away from good teaching he does not want them to aquire a sexually transmitted disease. This is the context of his answer.
I love how people swoon over Obama’s empty rehtoric and hold dearly to “words matter” right up until the point that Obama uses some language that shows what’s under his veneer. Then you hear all the harping about how someone misinterpreted what he said.
If words matter, then they matter I just wish more people would spend a little time looking at his actions (one of the few IL congressman who supported late term abortions) and understand them in the context of his words. I think they would find a very different “Barack” than he so desparately wants them to see.
