No Runny Eggs

The repository of one hard-boiled egg from the south suburbs of Milwaukee, Wisconsin (and the occassional guest-blogger). The ramblings within may or may not offend, shock and awe you, but they are what I (or my guest-bloggers) think.

Meeting of the Morons – prelude

by @ 21:40. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Yep, tonight was just the prelude. Due to various issues, I was the only one to make it to eastern Michigan today, and to the abode of one Lemur King and family. LM and family are the prototypical family, great husband and wife, two wonderful young children, and one incredibly-friendly cat (which I’m surprisingly not allergic to). The food lineup changed just a bit from the Indonesian fried rice LM had planned, to a Korean dish called Jae Jaeng Myun. I wholeheartedly approve, but then again, I like spicy.

The trip in for me was horrid. The “fun” began right at the Wisconsin-Illinois border with the reconstruction and expansion of the Tri-State (note to the DOT; Illinois is not making it 8 lanes north of Rosecrans). The Edens was horrid close to the Junction (with the Kennedy). The Skyway, as always, sucked at the toll booth.

Then the real fun began once I rejoined I-94 in Indiana. The Indiana DOT and its contractors chose today to do the actual repaving of the inside lanes, so the left lane was narrowed for a bunch of miles. That helped create a rather long stretch of stop-and-go. Michigan had its share of construction as well, along with a lot of state police. The good news is they’ll basically let you do 10 over, and outside the construction zones, the speed limit’s 70.

I’m pretty much toast since it’s 10:38 here. Tomorrow’s BBQ day.

The Morning Scramble – 6/27/2008

by @ 0:01. Filed under The Morning Scramble.

The From the Frontlines webathon was a smashing success. They wanted $500,000; thanks to the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Michelle Malkin, and everybody who donated, they got $1,055,719 as they went off the air. Bravo Zulu! Just as a reminder, the donation window is open until July 2.

It’s fitting, yet sad that Rush is at Summerfest tonight; I’ve been looking for a good time to break this one out, and a trip out of Milwaukee is as good of time as any…

This is going to be a bit abbreviated because I’m actually putting it together just before midnight, and I’m putting it up right at midnight.

  • Karl reminds us that another conservative victory came out of SCOTUS; the axing of the “Millionares’ Amendment”.
  • The Vintage One caught Reuters projecting their hatred of hunting on Justice Antonin Scalia. Score another point in the book for the Italian.
  • Curt found something disturbing in the Heller decision. Honestly, if the Lawgivers-In-Black ever get a solid majority on SCOTUS instead of relying on the coin flip that’s Anthony Kennedy, the presence or absence of that phrase won’t matter a bit; they just make it up anyway.
  • Marshall Manson and the other two denziens of On Tap say that it was actually Roberts’ majority.
  • Speaking of Jim Geraghty, he reports the NRA is going after Chicago’s handgun ban. Stay on target. Stay on target!
  • Uncle Jimbo smacks down the L-I-B.
  • Robert found a pic of the Justices that explains a lot.
  • Teresa notes how far Obama has moved since 2000 on foreign policy. Of course, I don’t necessarily consider adopting the Algore/Joe Lieberman standard a sign of maturity, but retreat-and-defeat is still worse.
  • Jessi has the Obamination cartoon of the day.
  • William Teach has half a cheer for Obama on the UN-Fairness Doctrine. Just remember Geraghty’s Maxim – every Obama statement has an expiration date.
  • Dad29 chalks up another cure for adult stem cells. Embryonic stem cells have yet to get on the board, but don’t expect the Culture of Death™ to stop trying killing.
  • Fred Keller has the top 10 reasons to support ANWR development. Paging Mr. McCain. Paging Mr. Sensenbrenner. Please pick up the diamond-tipped drill.

Unless I pop pack in here in the am, the next time you’ll hear from me, I’ll be on Michigan time.
