Now on the NRE menu – Crow with side of foot

Remember that uranium yellowcake reference in the 2003 State of the Union speech? Guess what – Iraq had a whole shitload of uranium yellowcake. Indeed, the US just got done transferring 550 metric tons found after the invasion to Canada in 110 shipping containers and 37 C-17 trips. That would be 550 metric tons not found properly disposed of by the Bumbling Twins, Hans Blix and Mohammed ElBaradei.

I seem to be out of barbecue sauce, so you liberals are going to just have to eat that crow and your feet dry.

Revisions/extensions (5:38 pm 7/7/2008) – Ed Morrissey notes that the IAEA knew about this for the last 13 years, yet all they did was put a seal (which a commenter on the Hot Air thread notes wasn’t exactly fool-proof) on it, which was left unmonitored between the tail end of 1998 and the arrival of American forces in 2003. There are also a couple of other discrepancies in the comments.

New player in the Waffle Game – Russ Feingold

Wisconsin’s own embarrassment, Russ Feingold, has fully flip-flopped on filibustering the FISA compromise reached by the White House and Congress.

Feingold when the compromise was reached (via WisPolitics):

"The proposed FISA deal is not a compromise; it is a capitulation. The House and Senate should not be taking up this bill, which effectively guarantees immunity for telecom companies alleged to have participated in the President’s illegal program,….”

Feingold on Tuesday as reported by the Green Bay Press-Gazette:

Feingold said he and other Senate opponents won’t try to stop the vote, but they “won’t allow it to pass quickly.”

Instead, Feingold, D-Wis., told an audience at the New America Foundation that he plans to highlight the bill’s flaws in floor speeches.

Feingold yesterday per the Huffington Post:

“This is a deeply flawed bill, which does nothing more than offer retroactive immunity by another name. We strongly urge our colleagues to reject this so-called "˜compromise’ legislation and oppose any efforts to consider this bill in its current form. We will oppose efforts to end debate on this bill as long as it provides retroactive immunity for the telecommunications companies that may have participated in the President’s warrantless wiretapping program, and as long as it fails to protect the privacy of law-abiding Americans.” (emphasis added)

I wonder if Feingold remembers what happened to the last liberal ‘Rat who told his home-state constituents one thing and did the exact opposite. Does Tom Daschle ring a bell? Hopefully the Wisconsin GOP will finally have its act together by 2010.

Canada.com reports that the court-appointed lawyer of “suspected” Islamokazi Omar Khadr, the sole surviving member of a group of Taliban Islamokazis who initiated a firefight with American forces in July 2002, wants Khadr released because he wasn’t read his rights.

I support his release…from an aircraft flying at 35,000 feet sans parachute and oxygen tank.

German special forces let another one get away

Der Spiegel reports that the German KSK special forces assigned to capture a rather bloodthirsty Taliban commander simply let him walk away. The KSK and the Afghan troops they were working with conducted a brilliant surveillance, right down to the color of his turban. However, when it came time to take him down, they were spotted a couple hundred yards from their target. Because the KSK is under orders to not use lethal force unless fired upon, all the commander had to do was run, which he did.

The larger policy of not firing unless fired upon is causing some serious friction between the Germans and the remainder of the NATO force in Afghanistan. Quoting an unnamed British officer, “The Krauts are allowing the most dangerous people to get away and are in the process increasing the danger for the Afghans and for all foreign forces here.”

No wonder why most of the Taliban “resurgence” has happened in German-controlled areas. I wonder what the Germans would have done had the Soviets decided to charge through the Fulda Gap.

Who here didn’t see this headline coming – Ex-Guantanamo inmate in Iraq suicide bombing? Abdullah Saleh al-Ajmi, late of Club Gitmo and released in 2005, recently blew himself up in a suicide bombing in Mosul. His cousin, Salem al-Ajmi, is missing only a single “shocked” in his reaction – “We were shocked by the painful news we received this afternoon … through a call from one of the friend’s of martyr Abdullah in Iraq.”

Allahpundit has a bit more of the story. Once again, I am left to surmise that “peace” is really “pieces”.

Crapweasel of the day

Uncle Jimbo, who is on the National Heroes Tour, has found some crapweasels in the greater Twin Cities area. The oh-so-tolerant left couldn’t abide a few veterans giving the youth at Forest Lake High School some positive words about the media, so they got linguini-spined principal Steve Massey to cancel the event because it was “too political”.

Too political, Massey? As Uncle Jimbo pointed out, the only ones making this political are the Gorons who cannot abide any positive message about the military being told to the skulls full of mush. Peter notes that The Corner found out it it was the DUmmies behind this. I’m shocked, SHOCKED.

One of the commenters on Michelle Malkin’s thread notes there are schools giving students extra credit if they go to anti-war rallies. It would be very interesting to find out if Forest Lake High School is one of those; something tells me it is.

Revisions/extensions (4:30 pm 3/25/2008) – A couple of extensions. First, a tip of the cap to Cory down in the comments for Dan Riehl’s little expose on Mr. Massey’s past. While it doesn’t definitely answer my suspicions on whether the school offered extra credit for protesting the war, it does reinforce my suspicions that he is a liberal crapweasel.

Related to that, one Eric Langless, a school board member there, has promised in Dan’s comments that he will look into this.

Finally, a bit of good old-fashioned student protest against the administration, conservative edition, comes to us from Powerline via Michelle Malkin – dozens of students walked out of school to see the rescheduled speech at the American Legion. Student Elijah Miller summed up the actions of the school, “My brother’s in the armed forces…it’s a slap in the face for people with family members in the armed forces.”

Iraqi WMD revelation buried somewhere in the memory hole

The editorial page editors at The Wall Street Journal take their makeup-and-camera counterparts at CBS‘s “60 Minutes” to task for buring a rather telling portion of Scott Pelley’s interview with George Piro, who was the one who debriefed Saddam Hussein after his capture:

Mr. Piro: “The folks that he needed to reconstitute his program are still there.”

Mr. Pelley: “And that was his intention?”

Mr. Piro: “Yes.”

Mr. Pelley: “What weapons of mass destruction did he intend to pursue again once he had the opportunity?”

Mr. Piro: “He wanted to pursue all of WMD. So he wanted to reconstitute his entire WMD program.”

Mr. Pelley: “Chemical, biological, even nuclear.”

Mr. Piro: “Yes.”

Now, why do you suppose CBS would bury evidence of Saddam Hussein’s continuing desire to get all manner of weapons of mass destruction, especially in the fall 2002-spring 2003 time frame, countries such as Russia, France and Germany were chomping at the bit to satisfy Hussein’s desire for WMDs? Could it be that it might suggest that President Bush was right in taking his regime and ultimately him down?

McCain supported “benchmarks” before he didn’t

I don’t know if the Navy taught A-4 flyers to check six back in the early 1960s, but if they did, John McCain forgot the lesson. Commit this little nugget from the Arizona Star circa January, 2007 to memory:

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., one of the most stalwart supporters of the war in Iraq, said Thursday that he might propose that the Iraqi government meet certain benchmarks for the United States to continue its engagement.

Fellow senators and independent political scientists said McCain’s thinking reflected growing concerns within the Republican Party about the course of the war, and also might mark a turning point for the likely 2008 presidential contender, whose previous unconditional backing of the war may have hurt his prospects.

McCain said Thursday that he hadn’t yet decided on precise benchmarks. "They’d have to be specific, and they (Iraqi government officials) would have to meet them," he said.

Asked what penalty would be imposed if Iraq failed to meet his benchmarks, he said: "I think everybody knows the consequences. Haven’t met the benchmarks? Obviously, then, we’re not able to complete the mission. Then you have to examine your options."

Say, wasn’t “benchmarks” the buzzword for “cut and run” at that time? Damn if my “Double Talk Express” play on McCain’s trademark phrase isn’t accurate once again.

No, it’s not here, and it’s definitely not from me, but Wineaholic left this gem about Paul-Nuts on a Hot Air thread on a Condi-endorsed “grand compromise” in Iran:

Siren song? Come on, it’s not like people are going away anytime soon"¦ once the rEVOLution is over, they’ll just shift back from whence they came. Like white-power groups, the Democratic party, mental hospitals with liberal policies about internet usage. These people (and their message) are here to stay, bless their delusional little hearts.

Since this post is likely going to generate a trackback there, I may as well throw in my two cents on that “grand compromise. I wish I could believe the Iranians would be honest, but we’ve been burned before.

– John David Beck, who is an idiot racist, was fined CDN$6,000 for “dehumanizing” the disabled, “a particularily vulnerable group”.

– Free Dominion, Free Republic’s sister site, has moved its corporate structure to Panama. They previously had moved their servers to the US because they had already begun to see this anti-conservative wave coming in 2002.

– Ezra Levant was hauled before Alberta’s “Human Rights” Commission because he dared publish a few cartoons of Mohammed in his (now-defunct) magazine, cartoons like this one…

Anti-military lawyer damages Marine’s car on eve of deployment

The details are over at Blackfive. Short version:

– Sgt. Mike McNulty, who is on activation orders to go to Camp Pendelton and then Iraq on January 2, went to visit a friend in Chicago on December 1.
– Chicago lawyer Jay R. Grodner decided to key McNulty’s car, causing $2,400 worth of damage ($2,100 more than what the standard is for felony criminal damage to property in Illinois), and proceeded to verbally assault McNulty.
– In the first court appearance, Grodner tried to get off with paying McNulty’s $100 deductible, with McNulty’s insurance taking the rest of the hit. Despite “encouragement” from the Illinois States Attorneys, McNulty said, “Nuts,” and tried to push for the felony charge
– The State, saying that it wouldn’t be worth it to try to pursue felony charges because Grodner was a lawyer, countered with an offer to put Grodner on probation. Grodner rejected that, knowing the clock is ticking.

The next hearing in this case is today. Matt will be updating us with the latest developments.

CNN is reporting former Pakistani Prime Minister Benzair Bhutto was assassinated earlier today following a suicide bombing that killed over a dozen of her supporters.

This is not good, folks.

Why does government continue to insist on leaking secrets to the press?

First, we had ABC News telling us about the Transportation Security Agency’s Operations Center (H/T – Michelle Malkin). Now, we have Meg Jones of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, in a puff piece about how the FAA and NORAD track Santa, telling anybody with an Internet connection pretty much how to find the radar facility that tracks all planes flying above 8,000 feet around Lake Michigan, including O’Hare. At least ABC News didn’t tell certain “interested” parties how to find the facility within a roughly-20-mile drive up and down a single street busy enough to conceal drive-by surveillance or show a picture of the outside of said facility.

41 Taliban die of sleep depravation and airstrikes, but mostly airstrikes

I don’t know whether I should be complaining about the AoS commenting system since I hit the CPU Quota Exceeded error again, but since he isn’t on this one yet, I’ll jump in with the details from CTV:

Canadian military officials say they’re happy with a weekend raid carried out by coalition forces that reportedly caught the Taliban completely by surprise.

About 70 Taliban fighters were asleep in a compound when Canadian, Afghan National Army and British Ghurka soldiers attacked.

Forty-one Taliban died, with no coalition or civilian casualties reported in Operation Sharp Sword.

Airstrikes were used on the insurgents.

Good flying and hunting, men.

Hasn’t the IAEA heard of Xerox?

In an attempt to stall the world from acting before it gains nuclear weapons, Iran turned over a copy of a 2-year-old set of blueprints on how to mold uranium into weaponized shapes to the IAEA. LGF notes that the IAEA, headed by Mohamed ElBaradei, has been claiming that Iran has nothing but piec…er, peaceful intentions with their nuclear weapo…er, power production plan. Iran claims that they ‘accidentally’ got the blueprints during other black-market shopping. I say that Iran was shopping for them, kept the originals, and has every intention on acting upon them and using the results.

Can we bomb them now?
