Allergic catch-up

by @ 20:07. Filed under Miscellaneous.

If it’s spring, my allergies are knocking me flat out. Let’s see what I missed by not blogging the last couple days:

– McGee/Jackson Sr. may have finally stepped in it by defaming Charlie Sykes over the tragic death of his mother on his WNOV-AM show (thanks much for recording this, Patrick). The story went national, with many thanks to both Patrick and Pete. John McAdams managed to get a few words out of WNOV President/CEO Jerrel Jones, who decided to air a laughing McGee/Jackson Jr in Sr’s spot today (per Fred). Sure looks like Mr. Jones thinks it’s yet another McGee/Jackson “laughing” matter; I wonder if he has deep-enough pockets for the hopefully-pending FCC action against WNOV-AM.

– The Pubbies had a debate on MSNBC yesterday that nobody (including me) watched. Thankfully, Sister Toldjah dug up the transcript. The big news is that the Tommy Thompson killed his campaign by “mishearing” a question on the right of employers to fire gay workers.

– The de-facto elimination of the Craps Tax Anti-Freeze (would allow a 4%+growth increase) and a doubling of the real-estate transfer fee placed on those trying to escape the Tax HELL known as WisTAXsin survived the Joint Finance Committee (H/T – Owen). With Mike Huebsch all-but-on-board with the massive gas tax increase (which is now worth more than 8 cents/gallon), I am not confident that the Assembly will pull these tax increases out either, or if they do pull them out, will keep them out when the inevitable conference committee puts together the final budget.

– Speaking of gas, we’re now over $3.20/gallon. Gee, when we’ve gone 30 years since a new refinery was built or a new domestic oil field was exploited, we still have 40-some boutique gases with our special blend of Algore/Whitman Memorial Crap Gas having both summer and winter blends, and a couple refinery problems pop up, is it any wonder that we’ve had a 60% increase since the winter sub-$2/gallon lows? Oh, and expect $3.45 by tomorrow courtesy the 9.18% minimum markup law.

This week’s Friday Freefly takes aim at the new milblog rules and various House DhimmiRATs.

That’s all for today. AAAAA-CHOO!!!!!

LAST CALL FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVEN’T UPDATED YOUR BLOGROLLS!!!

by @ 23:03. Filed under Miscellaneous.

I hate to shout, but my search through Technorati for places that still actively link to the norunnyeggs.eggstor.com version doesn’t quite cover all the Blogspot blogs. I managed to catch a couple of you in a desperate search through your blogrolls (you know who you are; I left an e-mail for you), but I doubt I caught all of you. Sometime before May 15, I will be moving eggstor.com off of its current server, which will break the norunnyeggs.eggstor.com subdomain and the redirect I have set up to get you to norunnyeggs.com.

Now, get your rolls updated – https://norunnyeggs.com

Let’s go shooting

by @ 22:41. Filed under Miscellaneous.

The BBA Spring Shoot is set for Saturday, May 19, at McMiller’s Sports Center. We will commence firing approximately 10:00 in the morning. Chris will bring some of his arsenal, from a .44 Magnum to several scoped rifles to an “eeeeeevil” assault rifle (you’ll find out that it isn’t exactly evil) to (if he remember it this time) a 12-gauge for some clay-pigeon practice. I will probably have something to bring to the party as well (guess it’s time to go shopping).

Random thoughts on the Blog Summit II

by @ 20:09. Filed under Miscellaneous.

I decided to trash my rather-extensive off-the-cuff Cliff’s Notes after the impromptu Just Drinking at Caffrey’s, so I’ll go with some random thoughts that will only moderately-irritate everybody:

  • There is a definite difference in purpose between the conservative and liberal ends of the Cheddarsphere. Conservatives tend to view their purpose as simply venting their views, liberals see their purpose as to change the world by any means necessary.
  • Sticking with the separate halves for one more moment, both see the majority of the presstitutes as shills for the other side. I have to attribute the liberals’ charges to the fact that the old-guard media is not exactly open to outsiders of any stripe.
  • Charlie introduced the “Rule of Five”, saying that most political types tend to read just the 5 blogs that are the most interesting/polished/unique. Perfect answer from Nick; use a feed reader (and for those of you who have blogs, enable your RSS feed). A feed reader, whether it’s Google Reader, SharpReader (which I use), or something else, will search umpteen (somewhere north of 60 for me) blogs for new content and alert you to new content. Certain blogging solutions will even let me pull up comments on a particular thread without going to the site (and indeed, I access my comments RSS feed).
  • The line of the day came from Dasha Kelly – “Politics is a painful exercise in idiocy.” Well, I must be a masochist idiot. Seriously, there’s far more to blogging than politics.
  • Topic #1 – What effect did bloggers have on 2006/2008? The general consensus was that we had a bit of effect and that it’s growing, but we will likely never have THE effect. I’d have to agree with that.
  • Topic #2 – So, what are we doing to the presstitutes? Judging by Tim Cuprisin‘s hairline, worrying them about how to keep rolling with the changes (file under learn-something-new-daily: Colonial-era papers had nothing but ads on Page 1) while earning enough from ads to keep themselves gainfully employed in bloviating.
  • Quote of the day, part 2 – Dasha again – “I’m stunned there is another person out there who gives a da…rip about what I say.” Me too (and I wouldn’t have caught myself, which is reason #323 why I will never be invited onto one of these panels).
  • Quote of the day, part 3 – Owen – “Jay, you ignorant slut.”
  • It’s sad to see that Eugene Kane somehow always manages to go off the tracks.
  • The legal climate is starting to improve for bloggers, but many Lawgivers-In-Black like to shut blogs down first and answer questions later.
  • Topic #4 – Are “all voices” being heard? Predictable, engineered and much-hyped conclusion – no. Me – Bravo Foxtrot Sierra! If someone feels a voice is missing, it’s the fault of the ones who don’t blog. Before Eugene went off the tracks, he did note that blacks have a LOT to say.
  • There was a lot of whining about “Big Eeeeeeevil Corporations” and how they’re going to take over the world. News flash; “they”‘ve already done so, and honestly, “they” always have run the world. Without those “Big Eeeeeevil Corporations”, you’d still be limited to finding the nearest tree stump and bloviating in the town square.

There’s many other takes out there. James Wigderson is trying to gather them all.

There were two bright spots today…

by @ 21:07. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Finally meeting Chris Schneider, and the Simply Drinking (no Liberally, no Right, just drink and boo the draft like a bunch of drunk Jet fans) after the blog summit. I’m wiped out and pissed off at Wile E. Thompson (MUD spelled backwards for his actions in Rounds 1 and 2) and Marquette (for f’ing up the Wi-Fi).

I’ll have my react on the blog summit tomorrow.

Today in history

by @ 11:58. Filed under Miscellaneous.

This is not a regular feature, but I have to cheer up the man formerly known as Dennis York somehow (thanks for doing the legwork, Aaron):

1773 British Parliament passes Tea Act, sets in motion the events that created the best country in the history of the world.

1805 U.S. Marines attack shores of Tripoli, begins whacking away at Islamofascism.

1861 President Abe Lincoln suspends writ of habeas corpus, Democrats blame Bush.

1937 U.S. Social Security system makes its 1st benefit payment, US given 100 years left to live.

1973 Chris Schneider is born, sock puppets flee in terror (just kidding).

Happy birthday, Chris.

Where I’ll be tomorrow

blogsummitlogo07.jpg
Saturday, April 28, 10 am-1 pm
Marquette University Law School
Third Floor, Sensenbrenner Hall
1103 W. Wisconsin Avenue
Milwaukee, Wis.

This list is culled from my feed reader, so I definitely don’t have any of the mol…er, left end of the Cheddarsphere. Scheduled to appear (besides the WisPolitics-gathered group):

Guess Charlie was right when he said that there will be more bloggers there than at a Star Trek convention. Let me say that, if I didn’t get that laptop so I could watch my own movies on the way to and from Jamaica, I probably wouldn’t be there because I really am a quiet guy.

Thoughfully, Marquette University will be providing Wi-Fi and power outlets for those that pre-register. I know there was room as of Wednesday.

Friday videos – 4/27/2007

by @ 9:16. Filed under Miscellaneous.

I can’t remember if I trolled around for the Friday videos last week, but that’s last week. It’s now this week, so here we go (with HamNation added 1:01 pm 4/27/2007)

– First up, a military-grade language warning is in order as BA Uncle Jimbo (mash the link for why the “BA” is there and some tidbits on the other ground-pounders and token civilian at BLACKFIVE) delivers this week’s Friday Freefly skewering the Defeatist Dems and Thursday Prefly whacking the witchhunt over Pat Tillman and Jessica Lynch.

– Up next, Hot Air goes introspective as they count down the top 5 shows from Year 1 and show outtakes. Unlike Uncle Jimbo and Kev, they bleep out the bad words (to each their own).

Still to come Last but definitely not least, HamNation does the family thing while channeling Dr. Seuss, delivering good news from General Fooz Petraeus to a grumpy old Dingy Harry. Mom Ham does a great voiceover.

Proudly presenting The Ventilators

by @ 8:56. Filed under Miscellaneous.

I don’t know much that the dynamic duo of Michelle Malkin and Bryan Preston can’t do, so enjoy this morning’s Vent. If only I could sing, I’d join in.

Actually, if they need a machine-gun bass, I’ll join in.

Under-the-weather roll troll

by @ 16:58. Filed under Miscellaneous.

I don’t have much of anything, so let’s see what else is out there…

This week’s Vent – Best.Vent.Ever. What a way to ring in Year 2 of HotAir.

– Speaking of videos, Uncle Jimbo checks in with a proper view of the DhimmiRATs’ twin-headed leadership.

– The Wisconsin Policy Research Institute sure is busy, part 1. They’re running a 2-week series in which a bunch of conservatives answer the question, “Is Conservatism Out Of Gas?” So far, Rep. Paul Ryan says that it’s Republicanism that ran out of gas and expands on what conservatives need to stress to stave off liberal , Charlie Sykes says it’s temporarily out of gas and that liberalism is perpetually out of gas, and Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner echoes Rep. Ryan. Thanks for the crib notes, guys; I’ll have my own thoughts here sometime soon.

– The WPRI sure is busy, part 2. Sticking with the gas theme, they reveal how the Craps “excess oil profits” tax will be paid for by we the taxpayers despite massive state spending designed to shove the effects of his over-$0.05/gallon gas tax out of state.

Reaganite at The Crocodile Cage tells us why most dogs are Republicans. Amen. Oh, and this is the second call for youse mugs to get him on your blogrolls and feed readers.

Sister Toldjah relays the reason many Southwest Airlines employees wear red on Fridays. All of a sudden, I feel free to move about the country. Seriously, Support the troops, start by wearing red on Friday.

– For more ideas, HotAir has some Fox News video from Major Eric Egland, author of The Troops Need You Now

Revisions/extensions (5:08 pm 4/25/2007) – I KNEW I forgot something. Sorry about that, Uncle Jimbo.

Cho Family Speaks

by @ 19:32. Filed under Miscellaneous.

The family of the Virgina Tech shooter deserves some credit. They haven’t tried to stick up for him.

Their public statement about the tragedy says all the right things and doesn’t read like it came straight from a PR firm. It makes me wonder how Seung-Hui Cho could’ve turned out the way he did.

Don’t forget to pray for this family, too.

Presenting Brian and Kris Koch

by @ 0:21. Filed under Miscellaneous.

A couple of choice pics (slightly shrunken from the originals designed to fit on the blog – if you’re running 1600×1200; they don’t quite fit on my 1280×1024 monitor) from their wedding in Montego Bay, Jamaica on Wednesday (most of these were me using Brian and Kris’s camera; unfortunately, I got their camera just as the ceremony was starting, so I wasn’t able to immediately set it to the proper settings for the ceremony; a few of my shots did not turn out) –

John Doe is back

by @ 11:16. Filed under Miscellaneous.

I’ll have some pics of the ceremony in a bit once the laptop is recharged somewhat. Looks like we had an Chinese-interesting week back here from almost the moment the plane went wheels-up from O’Hare (on-time, actually). Some South Korean nutjob went psycho at Virginia Tech with a pair of handguns and mailed a rant to NBC, the Dow hit a record, yet another late-season noreaster slammed New England, Wisconsin continues its descent into the 9th ring of Tax Hell, the Chloe Hacker Army rolled on (DAMMIT!), Dingy Harry Reid is trying to play Dan Blather, SCOTUS upheld the right of states to actually regulate third-trimester abortions. Anything else I missed?

Once again, many thanks to Aaron, Fred and Patrick for filling in. It doesn’t look like there’s too much damage to clean up.

Virginia Tech Shooter sends video to NBC News

by @ 17:19. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Breaking NewsWow, after Cho Seung-Hui shot the first two people, but before he continued his murder spree, he took time to make a video and send it to NBC News.

Gunman sent package to NBC News
Sometime after he killed two people in a Virginia university dormitory but before he slaughtered 30 more in a classroom building Monday morning, Cho Seung-Hui mailed NBC News a rambling communication and videos about his grievances, the network said Wednesday.

They haven’t released the video, but you can read their coverage at MSNBC. It sounds like there will be an update on the NBC Nightly News at 5:30 (CT).

Putting an end to Cruising in Milwaukee

by @ 13:52. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Milwaukee residents need to follow up on this if we are going to allow our cops to fight Cruisers that invade our streets every summer. In the past week, there were two Cruising incidents, both resulted in shooting, three people were wounded.

The following quote is from a letter by Alderman Bob Donovan. Excerpt from Sykes Writes:

Caught your comments this morning on cruising. I couldn’t agree more. I just wanted to clarify some of the legalities"¦last year I met with the City Attorney, the police and our legislative drafting people. We strengthened legislation to increase the ability to tow vehicles involved in cruising.

Additionally, the Common Council, in a vote of 14-1 also passed a resolution to lobby the State for legislation to strengthen our abilities even more. That was over a year ago – and to date, the Mayor’s administration has done nothing with it. They haven’t even introduced legislation, much less begun the lobbying process. Very disappointing that our Mayor, who maintains that public safety is his number one concern, is not directing his lobbyists to push for better State legislation when it comes to cruising.

If we are going to end cruising, we need to pressure our representatives on the state level to change the law needed to confiscate the vehicles.

Mandatory Virginia Tech Post

by @ 21:36. Filed under Miscellaneous.

I have an unusual observation to share about this Virginia Tech shooting. Maybe it’s nothing, but I think there may be something worth talking about.

What strikes me as odd about this particular tragedy, as opposed to others like it, is that it happened at a college. This takes a whole different level of sicko. Do you see what I’m getting at?

Once you’re in college, you should begin feeling like the master of your own destiny. After skipping a class or two, you should start to realize that you’re not in high school anymore. Nobody is watching over you and you have a lot more freedom, choices, and responsibility. You should realize, deep into your first semester, that you’re an adult now and you are your own boss.

To have that level of pent-up rage at any stage of your life is unfathomable. But, what are you doing wrong if you get to college and still can’t shed your teen angst? There are no excuses for this. I’ll be waiting to see if anyone tries to come up with some.

Writing from the grave

by @ 20:18. Filed under Miscellaneous.

…or at least the low speed that is Days Inn-O’Hare West.

I’m still in the country for, oh, about 13 hours (give or take headwinds), and I went and splurged on a brand new Gateway laptop from Best Buy for $600 (MT6705 with a Pentium dual-core processor, 1 GB memory, and some other goodies) so I could bug you all tonight and watch some real movies on the plane (on the playlist – Scarface, Braveheart, Payback and We Were Soldiers). ‘Tis good that my guest bloggers all found how to get here, so treat them better than you do me.

Don’t have much of anything else to say, other than I will be taking one of those options in the just-closed poll. I refuse to divulge any more information than that because it might incriminate me. I can’t even think of anything for the Emergency Blogging System to say, so the conn is all yours, guys.

42

by @ 13:49. Filed under Miscellaneous, Sports.

Watching the Brewer game I have mixed emotions on seeing every player wearing 42.

A fastball from 42, number 42 slams it over the head of number 42 for a 3 run home run.

Well looks like # 42 has a 1 one run lead now.   42 to 42 to put out 42.

I’m all for Jackie Robinson day but why don’t we put a patch on the uniform?
