No Runny Eggs

The repository of one hard-boiled egg from the south suburbs of Milwaukee, Wisconsin (and the occassional guest-blogger). The ramblings within may or may not offend, shock and awe you, but they are what I (or my guest-bloggers) think.

Making a list, checking it twice

Revisons (extensions are below; 8:12 am 12/25/2007) – I know I didn’t include everybody on my bloated roll, and with so many people, there just aren’t enough hours in the day to personally wish everybody a merry and blessed Christmas. Do have a merry and blessed Christmas, and a happy new year.

Defending the American Dream – Wisconsin Summit – 2/9/2008

by @ 8:45. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Clear February 9, 2008 on your calendars. Americans for Prosperity is having a Defending the American Dream – Wisconsin Summit that day at the Country Springs Hotel, 2810 Golf Road, Pewaukee (that’s the north frontage road off of I-94 between Highways T and G).

The fun starts at 8:30 am with registration and refreshments, speakers starting at 10, lunch at noon, two sets of breakout sessions (including one run by Leslie Graves), a closing speaker (to-be-announced), and a closing reception with Owen Robinson and Fred Dooley.

Registration is $29 ($15 for students), and is limited. I remember hearing 500 as that limit, so get to registering at the link above.

Story of the day

by @ 7:05. Filed under Miscellaneous.

(H/T – Michelle)

The Daily Mail has a wonderful story of a woman who woke up after 6 weeks in a coma to discover she gave birth to a healthy baby boy. That’s just where it starts, and since I can’t do it justice, just go there and read.

A date which will live in famy (not infamy, Patrick)

by @ 17:08. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Attention. Attention Wisconsin bloggers, blog-readers, and Packer fans. On December 30, 2007, the Badger Blog Alliance will be holding a Holiday Party at Papa’s Social Club, 7718 W. Burleigh St. in Milwaukee. This party will begin at noon, and will feature a host of your favorite bloggers and pizza during the Packers-Lions halftime. Dickie has a pair of big-screens and several smaller TVs, so you won’t miss the game.

If you’re attending, please let Fred know at the link above (I’ve disabled comments).

For you out-of-towners, and those of you who haven’t been to any of the Drinking Rights; the easiest way there is:
– US 45 to Burleigh (that’s north of I-94)
– East on Burleigh (that will be a right for those coming from the south, a left for those coming from the north)
– Look for Papa’s Social Club and Mama’s Pizza on your left about 2 miles down the road (if you see Lowe’s, you went the wrong way).

For those of you who will be rolling in from the North Shore, I recommend taking your choice of Brown Deer Rd., Good Hope Rd., Silver Spring Dr., or Capitol Dr. west to 76th, then a left to Burleigh and a quick right (Papa’s will be on your right in less than 2 blocks).

Video of the day

by @ 11:24. Filed under Miscellaneous.

It isn’t Friday, but it’s time for a very special HamNation starring Carolyn Washburn as Nurse Ratched.

If you’re neither laughing nor crying during the watching of that, please proceed to the nearest medical examiner.

Warning label (added 2:39 pm 12/18/2007) – Those of you with weak stomachs, don’t play the video. You will get sick.

Rest in peace, Triticale

by @ 9:27. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Nick has the details:

Very sad news for the blogosphere. Tom’s brother let me know that The Wheat and Rye Guy, Triticale, died last night, having never regained consciousness. He had Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), and it had spread to the brain…. His brother Walter told me that Tom was being cremated, and that a memorial would likely be held in the spring, after some time has passed, so people can celebrate his life, instead of mourn his loss.

This one’s tough to take. Triticale was a regular at Drinking Right, and to find out that he went rather suddenly, it’s just tough. My thoughts and prayers for his family.

The pussification of Japanese society

by @ 14:57. Filed under Miscellaneous.

(H/T – The Florida Masochist via bRight & Early’s First Cup)

Because I don’t want to think about the Huck-A-Boom sweeping through the Giuliani firewall of Florida, and Thompson’s and Romney’s last stand of South Carolina, right now, I’ll go international for today’s sign of the apocalypse – 40% of Japanese men sit to pee. That’s an almost-300% movement in the wrong direction from 1999, and it’s fueled by the younger Japanese. The ChiComs and Krazy Kim are licking their chops as there is no sign of the samurai returning.

To paraphrase Popeye, “Tha’s all I can stands, and I’ll stands ever more.”

Drinking Right – T-minus 30 minutes

by @ 18:30. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Do allow yourself a few extra minutes on account of the weather, but the drinking starts at 7 over at Papa’s Social Club (7718 W Burleigh in Milwaukee).

Be there, or be nowhere.

Break out your ice chippers, plus DR is ON!

by @ 11:50. Filed under Miscellaneous, Weather.

The good news, at least at the Command, Control & Conquer compound here in northwest Oak Creek, is that it is above freezing.

The bad news is, looking at the temps elsewhere, it isn’t above freezing. Be careful out there, and watch out for that ice. Even if it’s just above freezing, the most-slippery ice is water-covered ice.

The better news is that this is supposed to change to all snow by 3, with minimal accumulation. That means that, unlike the DOT and MPS, which have cancelled their evening activities, Drinking Right is ON! If you’re worried about the roads in Milwaukee, Burleigh is a main thoroughfare, and the freeways are handled by the county.

Eggs on the road

by @ 16:54. Filed under Miscellaneous.

I’m not letting the weather or a lack of blog posts stop me. You shouldn’t either.

Stop #1 – Drinking Right, 12/11, 7 pm at Papa’s Social Club, 7718 W Burleigh in Milwaukee

Stop #2 – Center-Right Coalition featuring Rick Esenberg on the Supreme Court race, 12/12, 9 am (refreshments at 8:30) at the Madison Club, 5 E Wilson in Madison

Light blogging, snowy edition

by @ 13:16. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Because I still have nothing of substance, I’ll point you in the general direction of how James T. Harris spent the second snowfall. Letting softly-falling snow hit your face is a good way to experience snow (especially if you have a beard to help keep the face from freezing). Hearing 27 shots and not living next to a gun range isn’t (and mind you, that’s on a snowy Tuesday night).

Light blogging alert

by @ 13:01. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Once again, I’ve got nothing ready to post. I’m wondering why I haven’t moved out to Nevada yet, what with max-effort tax increases coming from all quarters this year to match the reassessment boosts, from the city of Oak Creek, to the Oak Creek-Franklin School District, to the county of Milwaukee, to MATC, to MMSD, to every other property-taxing authority (“thanks”, Craps, for creating a meaningless “whole-cloth” number), and Gorebal “Warming” is smacking us in southeast Wisconsin in the ass (somehow, I just missed being in the worst part of the lake-snowbelt).

I do have some things I’m mulling over, but they’re not quite ready for…well, I would say prime-time, but nothing here with my name on it was ready for prime-time.

This is your 26-day warning on the Holiday party

by @ 15:49. Filed under Miscellaneous.

This is the Emergency Blogging System. Because Uncle Fred doesn’t have one of these, it has been activated here:

This is a test of the Cheddarsphere Holiday party alert system.

Had this been an actual emergency you would have been reminded that this year’s blogger holiday party is slated for Sunday December the 30th starting at noon at Papa’s in Milwaukee at 78th & Burleigh. Had this been a real alert you would have been notified that this non partisan blog party is open to all who care to attend.

If this were a real alert planned events would include, Pin the tail on the Fraley and a 2008 prediction drop. (bring a 2008 prediction for a group posting)

This is only a test.

You may now resume your regularly scheduled blogging.

Had this been an actual Cheddarsphere Holiday party emergency, you would have had Egg dipping rather heavily into the egg nog. Please RSVP over at Fred’s place; comments are off here.

Sykes Writes’ archives are back

by @ 9:58. Filed under Miscellaneous.

The last step to getting The Blogfather’s blog up to full blogging standards happened recently with the restoration of the archives. Congrats, WTMJ web monkeys.

Editor’s note; as you can tell, I’ve once again got nothing.

This is your 1-week warning for December Drinking Right

by @ 9:32. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Today is not the second Tuesday of the month, so you have a week to clear off your calendars for December 11. As always, a bunch of us right-wing co-conspirators will be gathering at Papa’s Social Club, 7718 W Burleigh in Milwaukee, at 7 pm on the 11th to prove once again…

It’s not about being right, it’s about being drinking!

Daily Dollop exclusive – 1/3 of Republicans Work for Democratic Candidates

by @ 17:48. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Pleiban ran with the multitude of Democratic plants in the Republican CNN/YouTube debate, and delivered a stunning story. It’s just too good to swipe, and I can’t add anything, so head there to read (sorry; Pleiban has comments turned off they’re now on as of 6:16 pm, and since I don’t feel like handling overflow, I’ve done the same shut them off here.

Head rests for urinals?

by @ 12:09. Filed under Miscellaneous.

(H/T – Allahpundit/HotAir Headlines)

If anybody thinks that putting a headrest above a urinal is going to keep one from doing a messy and embarrassing faceplant into the business end of said urinal, I’ve got a bridge to sell you.

Nobody’s going to be home here

by @ 17:47. Filed under Miscellaneous.

If you’re unlucky enough to not be able to grab WISN’s, WFRV’s, or WJMN’s signal with rabbit ears, to not be in eastern Wisconsin (specifically, the designated Milwaukee and Green Bay TV markets), to not be in the coverage area of the Packers Radio Network, or to not have a satellite dish, we, the bartenders of TheWisconsinSportsBar, have you covered. I’ll specifically be there, on the Free Republic Week 13 live thread roasting some Cowpokes, and if Bryan wants to suffer heart-ache, the upcoming Hot Air open thread (link will be added when and if Bryan puts it up). I’ll also pop in and out of Sister Toldjah’s open thread (there’s a good mix of Packer and Cowboy fans there) (added 6:41 pm).

GO PACK GO!

Henry Hyde, RIP

Damn, but drunkenblogging is hard

by @ 21:23. Filed under Miscellaneous.

I don’t know how the VodkaPundit does it. I’m a well-toasted Egg after 5 Labatt Blues (and yes, unlike previous live-blogging efforts, I have both the bottles and the slide in language to prove it). Of course, I handicapped myself with trying to keep up with the Hot Air Live! feed as well as the CNN feed.

I’ll have to depend on some sober notes tomorrow.

There goes most of my meager readership tonight

by @ 13:18. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Michelle and Bryan will be live-vlogging the YouTube debate. Somehow I doubt they’ll accept Stephen Green’s martini challenge, but since I can neither speak well nor look good in front of the camera, I may as well. Of course, I’ll have to modify things a bit; I’ll be doing Sam Adams.

Beware the S-, D-, A- and F-bombs tonight.

November 27, 2007

I’ve got (almost) nothing

by @ 20:01. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Nothing is really catching my interest tonight, and Bucky’s first real test of the basketball season is due up presently, so I’ll just send you along in the general direction of those that actually have something. (Editor’s note; since I don’t have much of anything new or exciting to offer, I attempted to disable pingbacks to the blogs I’m mentioning here.):

– Casper’s back with some wicked takes on the “coexist kerfuffle” (original parody from the irreplaceable Tom McMahon)

– Mary Katharine Ham sat down with a couple of CNN types and talked the Pubbie YouTube debate.

Patrick Ruffini and Jim Geraghty have duelling takes on the Ron Paul effect. If I get more time, I’ll expound on why I’m far more in Geraghty’s camp on this one, but I will say that there is a reason why Libertarians aren’t in office even if a significant portion of the populace agrees with the smaller-government portion of their platform (and no, jumping on the Toofer and Dhimmitude train isn’t going to help them either, even though it’s made them more popular with the presstitutes).

– From the Theives in Gubmint Department – State Edition: massive pay raises for state employees, with a only-in-gubmint defense from Russ Decker. Hey Russ, I don’t recall too many in the private sector getting 3.1% annual raises, and the last time I checked, 6.3% for yourself is a lot bigger than the 5% you’re giving the non-union employees.

Fred Thompson borrows the Paul Ryan tax plan. Again, what’s with the option of keeping the bloated tax code so complex it takes a dolly to cart around?

– Caledonia Unplugged has the latest on the traffic-killing roundabout at the intersection of Hwys 38 and K down in Racine County. Like any bad gubmint project, it’s overdue and ineffectual. I’ll wager it’s also over budget.

– The Artist Formerly Known As Dennis York, a former legislative aide, brings forth a stack of stupid constituent letters.

– As long as I’m raiding Atomic Trousers, Dr. Emil Shuffhausen’s Rulez of the Road is a must-read.

– If you’re a closet Hitler fan, like a certain Philadelphia baseball writer, take these lessons to heart. First, don’t admit it in an e-mail. Second, and most-important, don’t under any circumstances let Ace find out. Fans of Bugs Bunny ought to be able to guess that putz calls himself a genius, and we all know what happens when self-proclaimed geniuses run into morons that can barely pass the entrance exam to kindergarten.

– Speaking of baseball, I put a lot of trust in those that value Sabermetrics, like fellow barkeep ESK. I’m going to enjoy all of the homers that Cordero’s going to give up for the Redlegs. That’s $48 million well-spent (at least from a Brewers’ fan’s perspective) by a division rival.

– I previously noted that Ted “Swimmer” Kennedy is going to write an autobiography in the mold of OJ Simpson. Uncle Fred’s running a contest to name that book.

Revisions/extensions (3:33 pm 11/28/2007) – Jo ever-so-gently reminded me of a call from the Fond du Lac Reporter for kissing experiences and perferences. Talk about stupid presstitute tricks.

What do The Swimmer and The Slasher have in common?

by @ 9:14. Filed under Miscellaneous.

(H/T – Weasel Zippers)

With Ted Kennedy getting $8 million from the Hatchette Book Group for his memoirs, both he and OJ Simpson are profiting quite handsomely from having women die on them.

“Metal up” tribute

by @ 20:23. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Quiet Riot singer Kevin DuBrow is dead at 52. I can’t find an actual video of the quintessential “Bang Your Head (Metal Health)”, so this will have to do.

Bang your head!
Metal health will drive you mad!

Goracle hacked

by @ 19:54. Filed under Miscellaneous.

(H/T – JammieWearingFool)

A blog set up by Algore Goracle to promote The Convenient L…er, An Inconvenient Truth has been hacked by hawkers of online “pharmaceuticals”. As someone who has to routinely clean that kind of trash out of the spam traps, I feel for the web monkeys who now have to reseize control of their blog. However, I just can’t stop chuckling that a domain registered to the self-proclaimed inventor of the Internet got PWN3D.

I hope they weren’t running the setup I’ve got.
