The John F. Kerry Award in the Des Moines Register debate goes to…

(H/T – Allahpundit, with pic credit to Michelle)

4hands.jpg

…Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, and John McCain for raising their hands to the “Who thinks Gorebal Warming is serious and is caused by man? Show of hands, now!” question before Fred Thompson laid the smackdown on Carolyn Washburn’s candy ass, and like Captain Tenneal, said, “Well, you’re wrong.” AP notes that Romney stuck his finger half into the wind, then clapped when Thompson laid the smackdown. And yet people wonder why I think there’s more than a bit of Flipper Kerry in Romney.

Bravo Zulus to Thompson, Duncan Hunter, Ron Paul, Tom Tancredo, and Alan Keyes for refusing to march to the tune of Nurse Rached (thanks for the name, Fred Barnes).

Freefly – Global Warming edition

by @ 13:32. Filed under Global "Warming".

I honestly don’t know what’s more delicious in the latest, too-infrequent Freefly from Uncle Jimbo and Kev; Kev in shorts and a tank top or the typical Madistan bike rider rolling through in the middle of the taping.

Thank you, Algore Goracle, High Priestess Cullen, and the rest of the Gorebal Warming disciples; this wouldn’t be nearly as funny without your pontifications that we’re heating up the planet beyond all recognition.

Here we go again – Congressional edition

(H/T – Bryan)

Back in February, the House had to cancel a hearing on Gorebal Warming because of too much snow. Now, it’s the Senate’s turn to cause a significant snowfall in DC by having a committee schedule a vote on a “cap-and-trade” on carbon dioxide emissions to shove Kyoto through the sphincter…

Wednesday: Snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 36. South wind 5 to 8 mph becoming east. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

They can pry my beer fridge from my cold, dead hands

by @ 17:30. Filed under Global "Warming".

Fox News is reporting that a Canadian-government-commissioned study found that beer fridges are a threat to the planet.

British environmental consultant (damn, it IS a cottage industry) Joanna Yarrow said, “”People need to understand the impact of their lifestyles. Clearly the environmental implications of having a frivolous luxury like a beer fridge are not hitting home. This research helps inform people "” let’s hope it has an effect.”

The kicker comes from U-of-Alberta (and head of this study) Denise Young, who suggest a gun-buyback program for beer fridges.

My response, “Get me another beer, wenches! I need that beer fridge to have any chance of getting beer goggles thick enough to make you look appealing.”

Revisions/extensions (8:34 am 11/30/2007) – Thanks to Gaius at Blue Crab Boulevard for pulling up a semi-roundup of this. Meanwhile, Fausta, who also found the story, has a money quote – “For those of you in a hurry for their beer to cool, Adam and Jamie proved that the fastest way to cool a six-pack is to spray it with a CO2 fire extinguisher. Beer + carbon emmissions = cool!”

R/E II (8:46 am 11:30/2007) – Mark Steyn also has a money quote – “I’ve never felt prouder.” (do I have to mention he’s Canadian?)

The temperature cycle is already going down

by @ 20:09. Filed under Global "Warming".

I’m too wiped to find a better source than a column in the online version of the Telegraph by Christopher Booker, but there’s a couple of items you probably haven’t heard from the Gorebal Warming crowd (who are still crowing over the state visit Algore Goracle had at the White House today):

– Earth’s temperatures as measured by satellites have been falling since 1998, dropping to 1983 levels this year.
– Speaking of 1998, recalculated surface temperatures from the 1930s now indicate that 1998 was not the warmest on record, but 1934. Also, the 1930s boast 4 of the 10 warmest years of the past century.

When will the Nobel Committee realize it fucked up and demand the Peace Prize back from Goracle and company? Oh, that’s right, it never did from Yasser Arafat, who was a warmonger up until the time he died.

Gorebal Warming update

by @ 16:04. Filed under Global "Warming".

Hot Air has the video of Glenn Beck adding lights to his MSNBC set to celebrate Coal Week. Enjoy.

Meanwhile, The Weather Channel founder John Coleman global warming the “greatest scam in history” (H/T – Hot Air commenter JiangxiDad).

Enjoy that cold weather Wisconsin; I’ll be back to suffer along with you before you know it.

So Algore Goracle won the Nobel Piec…er, “Peace” Prize

by @ 11:06. Filed under Global "Warming".

He joins miserable failures at peace such as Frank B. Kellogg (boy, that Kellogg-Briand Pact sure stopped WWII from happening), Nicholas Murray Butler (ditto), Arthur Henderson (was nobody paying attention to Nazi Germany’s and Japan’s rearmament in 1934?), Nansen International Office for Refugees (6 million Jews beg to differ with this 1938 pick), Ralph Bunche (how many wars have there been between the Israelis and the Arabs since 1950?), Henry Kissinger (ask the South Vietnamese how the Vietnam Peace Accords kept them around…oops, can’t ask them), the UN Peace-Keeping Forces (I never would have guessed rape is “peaceful”), Mikhail Gorbachev (this was before the Soviet Union entered the dustheap of history, and before Gorby decided to forment revolution in New Orleans), Yasser Arafat (self-explanatory), Kim Dae Jung (oops, the North Koreans now have nukes), Jimmy Carter (appeasing Islamokazis since 1977), and the IAEA and Mohammed elBaradei (Islamokazi Nukes-R-Us). Meanwhile, we’re struggling to get to the mid-50s in the land of Cheese and Beer. Algore’s timing just keeps on getting worse.

Tom McMahon sums up my thoughts with today’s 4-Block World.

Deconstructing the latest Gorebal “Warming” cry

by @ 23:37. Filed under Global "Warming".

(H/T – Allahpundit/Hot Air Headlines)

The New York Times has a breathless headline – “Arctic Melt Unnerves the Experts”. Let’s break out the chainsaw (gas-powered), shall we?

The Arctic ice cap shrank so much this summer that waves briefly lapped along two long-imagined Arctic shipping routes, the Northwest Passage over Canada and the Northern Sea Route over Russia.

I sure seem to recall the Soviets using the Northern Sea Route. They may have needed nuclear-powered icebreakers that were floating Chernobyls, but they used it.

Over all, the floating ice dwindled to an extent unparalleled in a century or more, by several estimates….

Astonished by the summer’s changes, scientists are studying the forces that exposed one million square miles of open water "” six Californias "” beyond the average since satellites started measurements in 1979.

Since when is 28 years of measurement evidence that it was a once-in-a-century retreat?

Scientists are also unnerved by the summer’s implications for the future, and their ability to predict it.

Any non-sports profession that accepts a 30% failure rate over 3 days is not something that I’d trust to predict 3 decades into the future.

Complicating the picture, the striking Arctic change was as much a result of ice moving as melting, many say. A new study, led by Son Nghiem at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and appearing this week in Geophysical Research Letters, used satellites and buoys to show that winds since 2000 had pushed huge amounts of thick old ice out of the Arctic basin past Greenland. The thin floes that formed on the resulting open water melted quicker or could be shuffled together by winds and similarly expelled, the authors said

OOPS! Guess it could have been something other than Gorebal “Warming”.

For one thing, experts are having trouble finding any records from Russia, Alaska or elsewhere pointing to such a widespread Arctic ice retreat in recent times, adding credence to the idea that humans may have tipped the balance.

Allow me to ReWrite™ that sentence to reflect a non-“religious” perspective – For one thing, experts are having trouble finding any records from Russia, Alaska or elsewhere pointing to either such a widespread Arctic ice retreat or lack of same in recent times, adding credence to the idea that humans may have tipped the balance nobody knows what is going on or why.

One more thing; sea ice is increasing in the Antarctic.

And we’re supposed to trust them on “global warming”?

I don’t recall any of the early-morning forecasts mentioning any possibility of rain today. That’s funny; I saw rain and even heard some thunder about noon. At least I didn’t end up like the golfer killed under a pine tree in Madison when a driving thunderstorm rolled through there about 10 am.

Everyone to the fight with the blizzard, especially you Indians fans (since you guys have so much recent experience).

Thank God for the dome; see you at Miller Park.

Today’s evidence that Global “Warming” is nothing but a religion

by @ 12:00. Filed under Global "Warming".

(H/T plus another unintenionally-funny video that I can’t get to work – Allahpundit)

High Priest Algore Goracle took a little trip to Oslo, Norway, where he compared those of us who think the extent of man’s involvement in global “warming” is Algore opening his mouth to Bull Connor. Of course, a lot of what Algore Jr. learned about civil rights came from his dad, who voted against the Civil Rights Act back in the day. Also, the last I checked, it’s the envirowhackos who are using the modern equivalent of the dogs and fire hoses, the weight of government and the occassional firebomb (H/T – Dad29). I don’t see the gubmint forcing the usage of those eeeeeevil SUVs, or GM blowing up Priuses.

But wait, there’s more. Algore is up for one of the Nobel Prizes because of his work on promoting his religion. However, instead of one of the scientific Nobel Prizes, he’s being vetted for the Piec…er, Peace Prize. Of course, the Piec…er, Peace Prize long ago stopped being about promoting peace and about bashing the US and Israel. How else would the stable-condition Yasser Arafat, Jimmy “Peanut Farmer” and the IAEA get them?

HamNation – Better Living Through Lefty Activism

The latest episode of HamNation takes on the lieberal-created problems of carbon offsets, lighting, and “domesticated” animals like Knut the lethally-adorable polar bear. If you’re not watching this weekly, you should be.

Now, go watch and be edified.

Note; unlike PETA’s actions, no animals were harmed in the production of the video.

Today’s signs that “Global Warming” is a religion

by @ 11:10. Filed under Global "Warming".

Item #1 – Much like the indulgences that the Catholics sold back in the 15th Century (I swear I was typing this up before the Blogfather brought it up), the high priests of Global Warming have thought up the perfect dodge for their “excessive carbon footprint”, specifically The High Priest himself, Algore – “carbon offsets”. A couple of random thoughts on that:

– I guess we finally found an “offset” program the lieberals will support, mainly because it benefits them instead of “big business”.
– Because the “carbon offset” program is completely unregulated, there is absolutely no verification of whether the entity being bribed is either in a position to reduce its “carbon footprint” or is reducing its own “carbon footprint” to match what is being bought. Do note that I am not saying that it should be either regulated or mandated; if it were so, it would be just another barrier constructed by the illuminati to keep the aspiring masses from improving their own lifestyles.
– Specifically in Algore’s case (H/T – Bill Hobbs via Fred), there is an ethical question of whether he’s actually paying anything. It seems the company that he’s buying those “offsets” from is the one he founded.

Item #2 – The Global Warming disciples are trying to poo-pooh this little story from National Geographic – the dry ice at Mars’ poles have been melting at a prodigious rate the last 3 years (the only 3 years that they’ve been measured with the current level of accuracy). The explanation given by Habibullo Abdussamatov, head of the St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory in Russia, that the warming experienced by both the Earth and Mars is a result of a long-term increase in solar irradiance (one that has started to turn the other direction), has been rejected by the disciples, partly because there isn’t enough accurate historical records on solar irradiance. Like the religious elite they are, they ignore that their case is not exactly supported by the lack of accurate historical records of amounts of greenhouse gases and temperatures.

The disciples’ explanation of Mars’ warming, wobbles in Mars’ orbit, sounds reasonable until one tries to apply that reasoning to Earth’s warming. While the disciples acknowledge that the Earth’s orbit also wobbles, they try to claim that Earth’s “different” because humans are here.

If Abdussamatov is right, the last item of the National Geographic article has a surprise – we’re not going to be warming much longer because the solar irradiance has started to drop.

House hearing on “Global Warming” cancelled

by @ 18:54. Filed under Global "Warming", Politics - National.

(H/T – Drudge)

Quoting the Drudge scoop:

The Subcommittee on Energy and Air Quality hearing scheduled for Wednesday, February 14, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. in room 2123 Rayburn House Office Building has been postponed due to inclement weather. The hearing is entitled "Climate Change: Are Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Human Activities Contributing to a Warming of the Planet?"….

DC WEATHER REPORT:

Wednesday: Freezing rain in the morning…then a chance of snow in the afternoon. Ice accumulation of less than one quarter of an inch. Highs in the mid 30s. Northwest winds around 20 mph. Chance of precipitation 80 percent.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy. Lows around 18. Northwest winds around 20 mph.

Considering the normal high/low for DC is 44/24, and there currently is a winter storm warning for the DC area, I guess we have our answer.

Global Warming update plus the pic of the day

by @ 17:47. Filed under Global "Warming".

Info from RedState, pic spotted on the Free Republic thread on that RS post, and the High Priest update courtesy Allahpundit:

  • Cold in Northern Michigan in the top 10 coldest winters ever? – Check
  • Cambodia (where the Ketchup Boy spent a nice, warm Christmas back in 1968, or so he says) struggling to get out of the 40s? – Check
  • The Indian subcontinent seeing record cold in January? – Check
  • Polar bears fleeing Greenland (and calling on the aforementioned person for halp) – Check
    global_warming-polar_bears.jpg
  • Ice packs showing up off the coast of Iceland for the first time in 40 years? – Check

Guess Algore picked the wrong day to say that Red China should not have to reduce its emissions of “greenhouse gases” until the US does.
