No Runny Eggs

The repository of one hard-boiled egg from the south suburbs of Milwaukee, Wisconsin (and the occassional guest-blogger). The ramblings within may or may not offend, shock and awe you, but they are what I (or my guest-bloggers) think.

Testing FeedBurner

by @ 12:57. Filed under The Blog.

Please ignore.

Revisions/extensions (1:03 pm 3/30/2007) – It’s slow to update, but it does give me another tracking tool. Those of you who read through a feed reader can either keep the current feed or use the FeedBurner version (http://feeds.feedburner.com/NoRunnyEggs).

Further revisions/extensins (1:45 pm 3/30/2007) – I believe I finally forced the stragglers that still were using the eggstor.com RSS feeds here thanks to Steve Smith’s FeedBurner plugin. I’ve also hacked a way to force those that for some dumb-assed reason were still at the Blogger site directly here instead of waiting 10 seconds. I wasn’t able to bust up Blogger’s feeds though.

Last update (1:52 pm 3/30/2007) – Figured out how to ping FeedBurner immediately. Updates should now come instantly.

More rolls, please

by @ 0:53. Filed under The Blog.

As long as I’m still up, I have no idea why I didn’t add the Noonan boys and The Electric Commentary long before now. However, I do know why I didn’t add WPRI’s blog much before today, because the paint’s still shiny.

New blogroll category

by @ 23:10. Filed under The Blog.

Because I’ve started a TownHall version of No Runny Eggs, I’ve created a new category for the other blogs you can find me.

Also, if you want your blog as a button rather than a plane-Jane link, send me a jpeg at norunnyeggs – at – norunnyeggs – dot – com. I do prefer it to be no more than 120 pixels wide because I don’t want to have to resize it.

Not going to have much today

by @ 8:29. Filed under The Blog.

Time to go kill Kane again.

I do miss Anton Slavik and Oxanna Kristos though.

I should’ve done this last night

by @ 17:41. Filed under Sports, The Blog.

To keep youse suckers from overloading the poll on which #1 seed falls first based on the score of the game, that poll will close in about 20 minutes, and if Floriduh and North Carolina both survive, I’ll reopen it in the morning. Of course, nobody was confident enough to load the poll up against OverratedSU when they were down 20.

A couple of hints – Florida tips against Butler at 6:10 in the first game, while North Carolina tips against USC at about 9 in the last. Also, OverratedSU goes first tomorrow, when (hopefully) the Worst Station in the Nation™ finally no longer stretches its SuckyDef feed to cover for the fact that they’re too damn cheap to put its weak-sister station on its own digital frequency.

Something that made me go, “Hmmmm…..”

by @ 11:20. Filed under The Blog.

It certainly is “nice” to know that somebody at 4th and State is checking up on me. However, you guys over there kitty-corner to the BC might want to have IT double-check that IP address. At least I hope the copy editors are better than IT at spelling, because the last time I checked, that last word should be spelled “Sentinel”, not “Sentinal”.

Speaking of videos…

by @ 10:01. Filed under The Blog.

…the latest edition of the Friday Freefly from Uncle Jimbo is worth a view. If the commentary on the video isn’t good enough to get both Uncle Jimbo’s own haunt, In the Crosshairs and his group haunt, BLACKFIVE on the roll, the location does it; a Madistan-area bar, with Bacardi prominently featured.

Yet another for the Cheddarsphere

by @ 11:20. Filed under The Blog.

Doc (or if you prefer, Nethicus) has been around a while. I just found out he’s a Cheddarhead, so please give a warm welcome to The Autopsy.

And better news – the Cheddarsphere edition

by @ 7:02. Filed under The Blog.

With a tip of the hat to James Wigderson

Even though he says to not call it a comeback, the artist formerly known as Dennis York, Christian Schneider, has come back to the Cheddarsphere.

Even if the bastard doesn’t link to me, I’ll direct you over to Atomic Trousers, and then to Chris’ latest effort at his serious home, WPRI. Let’s just say that the deliciously-departed Dennis Pork would have been a better steward of tax money than Jim “Craps” Doyle (WEAC/Potawatomi-For Sale).

Good news/bad news, Cheddarsphere edition

by @ 6:45. Filed under The Blog.

The good news – Kevin of Lakeshore Laments got a good job in DC.

The bad news – Because a condition of that job is that he can’t blog anymore, and because Kurt’s over in Iraq defending our freedoms, they’re ending Lakeshore Laments soon.

Congrats, Kevin, and stay safe, Kurt.

Blogroll metastasizes again

by @ 11:38. Filed under The Blog.

Please give a warm welcome to:

Headless Blogger. That name alone should have put him on the roll long before now, but the quote at the top of the blog, as well as the content therin, sealed the deal.

– James Harris and National Conversation. James just makes sense, and a lot of it.

If you doubt my calls for a warm welcome are ineffective, Snowpocalypse II collapsed right after I asked for one for The Weather Channel’s Mike Seidel.

Sorry about the abandonment

by @ 10:25. Filed under The Blog.

Just hadn’t been in the mood to blog lately, but like all things, it’s cyclical.

The following is a short list of those that, if they knew what was in store, would be deeply saddened and soddened:
– Jim “Craps” Doyle (WEAC/Potawatomi-For Sale)
– Tom “Milk Carton” Barrett
– JB “See No Evil” Van Hollen
– Theresa “Hugz for Thugz” Estness
– The High Priest of Global Warming, Algore
– John Chisholm
– Hiliary!
– John S. McShame (RINO-Media)
– Rudi Giuliani
– Various Legislators

Time for a comments policy

by @ 17:42. Filed under The Blog.

I really didn’t want to do this, but it’s time to introduce a formal comments and trackbacks/pingbacks policy. For those of you that missed it on the left side of the page, I’ve reposted it here:

I almost always welcome comments, trackbacks and pingbacks here (the times I don’t allow comments here tend to be when I am “promoting” a better conversation elsewhere). That having been said, the massive increase of spam has led me to create a policy.

First off, what somebody says in the comments section, whether through an actual comment, a trackback or a pingback, is his or her responsibility. If you do choose to comment, keep that in mind.

I do log IP addresses of every comment/trackback/pingback, and e-mail addresses of every comment, but since it would take a court order (or an illegal hacking of the server) for that information to leave my server, please don’t falsify them. Your website URI, which is a voluntary disclosure, will be made available for everyone to see.

While I do not, as a matter of policy, edit or remove comments, I do reserve the right to do so at any time and for any reason. I am not the government, and specifically for those that don’t know the first word of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, I am not Congress, so don’t go whining about your free speech rights being violated if I do so. I may or may not tell you why, but spam will be one of he reasons why I remove a comment.

Those that use the trackback/pingback feature of WordPress can expect closer scrutiny as something more than 90% of trackbacks and pingbacks are spam.

I use several tools to help me filter out the copious amounts of spam. They may or may not be 100% accurate and effective. If you do have a legitimate, on-topic comment/trackback/pingback that did get caught as spam, be patient. I don’t monitor this blog 24/7.

Remember, this is my sandbox, and while I generally am a nice guy, I can be very mercurial. If you have a problem with that, you are always free to start your own blog (at least if your government lets you). There are a multitude of blogging solutions out there. Heck, I might even put you on my blogroll, though that is at my sole discretion.

Dennis York departing the Cheddarsphere

by @ 15:58. Filed under The Blog.

Go there and thank him (while you can).

I hope he doesn’t blow up his blog like by blogfather did. I also hope he comes back to the Cheddarsphere. I’ve already called dibs on using him as a fill-in.

A bit of housekeeping

by @ 16:07. Filed under The Blog.

After finding out that some people haven’t figured out I’ve moved, I’ve instituted redirects from both previous versions of my blog. It’s quite seamless for those who went to the norunnyeggs.eggstor.com version; a PHP trick redirects the person to the page they were expecting to see here. It wasn’t easy to find how to do that, but I did.

For those that were still going to the Blogspot version, I had to use a Meta Refresh tag, and (at least for the moment), it will dump them to the main page. Blogger doesn’t allow PHP headers to be set, and I didn’t set up the structure here like Blogger did for me there.

WordPress 2.1 is alive

by @ 14:06. Filed under The Blog.

If you run WordPress on your own server, I recommend getting
WordPress 2.1. It has some cool features such as autosave, spell check (hey Aaron, this one’s for you!), and the newest version of Akismet.

One bit of a note; the 5-step process didn’t quite work for me. I had to delete all the old 2.0.7 files to get 2.1 working.

First blogroll addition of 2007

by @ 20:49. Filed under The Blog.

I am such a dumbshat for waiting over a year to add Sister Toldjah to the roll. Hopefully, you’re not as stupid as I am and already have her on your blogrolls.

One more “Why did I wait?” for the roll

by @ 13:35. Filed under The Blog.

Since I’m doing what for me is a massive amount of blogging today, I figured I may as well add one I should’ve had on from the start – Flopping Aces. Curt’s been running down the Jamil Hussein/AP falsifications, among other things.

Yet another for the roll

Sure, the proprietor of Traction Control isn’t a Cheddarhead, but Texans are the next best thing. If the common sense and the guns don’t grab you, the Christmas greetings will.

It sometimes pays to be part of the TTLB Ecosystem and have Technorati catch incoming links.

Moving the blog to its own domain

by @ 6:31. Filed under The Blog.

Hopefully by the time you read this, I’ll have everything set up. I’ll be at http://www.norunnyeggs.com.

I’ve had too many problems with running this on a subdomain (and a couple related to running it through Yahoo).

More rolls please

by @ 19:18. Filed under The Blog.

Can the roll get any bigger? Yes, it can:

Patrick McIlheran, the Journal Sentinel’s resident semi-conservative, makes an appearance.
Frank Lasee, who tried to give us Cheddarheads some serious tax relief with both TABOR and the TPA, also rolls in.

It’s a good thing WordPress has a randomizer function for the roll.

I’ve also done what, for me is a major revamp of the roll (I removed a deactivated blog).
