Kate has taken the full-fledged WordPress plunge and moved An Ol’ Broad’s Ramblings to her own server. If you could correct your rolls and feeds to her new address – http://olbroad.com/WordPress/, we’ll all be golden.
The repository of one hard-boiled egg from the south suburbs of Milwaukee, Wisconsin (and the occassional guest-blogger). The ramblings within may or may not offend, shock and awe you, but they are what I (or my guest-bloggers) think.

Rebecca, who has been hanging around Peter’s blog of late, started up her own blog – Taking a Sharp Right. ‘Tis good to see some convervatism coming out of UWM.
– I didn’t notice that Ian Schwartz left Hot Air until Allahpundit pointed out his new home on the HotAir live thread. I liked his work there, and I like the stuff at his own site, Ian Schwartz
– I’ve also added William Smith’s Conservative Blogger.
They’re both good reads and worthy additions to your blogrolls and feed readers.
Scratch my previous claim that I’m actively blocked by the ChiComs. While going through my logs this morning, I found this (everything that could identify this visitor beyond the city and country of the visitor in question has been redacted to protect him/her, while the URL of the page that was screen-capped has been redacted to protect me) –

Last I checked, Beijing is the capital of Red China.
I could take it as bad news that my constant bashing of the murderous thugs hasn’t blocked me, or I could say that No Runny Eggs is helping to replant the seeds of freedom that were ripped up, run over and shot down in Tianemen Square back in 1989.
One of the FReepers I mentioned in the last post, expatguy, has a blog called An American Expat in Southeast Asia. If this post on Pelosi’s road trip to Damascus and an unnamed foreign diplomat’s reaction was all he had, I would still add the blog to the roll, but that isn’t it. I’ll leave it to you to go read the entire blog.
A couple of minor things in the commenting department:
– For those of you using the preview comment function, I’ve made it a bit clearer that you’re previewing your comment and that it is not saved.
– I’ve also made it a bit clearer on what HTML you can use, including a handy link to an off-site reference page. If you insert HTML character/symbol codes, WordPress will pass that along as HTML and render the appropriate character/symbol.
Dunno if I’ll ever trim the roll, but I do need to add a couple more blogs –
– CDR Salamander. Dunno why I didn’t put him on before, especially since someone I trust keeps on recommending him.
– One Man’s Opinion. Don’t forget to guess in his weekly “Name That Country” series.
Revisions/extensions (9:58 am 5/25/2007) – I won’t quite say that the bozos that run the Great Firewall of China are frauds, but when my logs show a visit from Beijing, I can’t say that I’m banned by the ChiComs.
I’m proud to join John McAdams, Aaron, Dad29 and The Asian Badger in saying that my blog has been banned in Red China. I wonder what in the series of posts about the ChiComs triggered it; could it be that I call them ChiComs, or perhaps I use the term Red China to refer to the mainland…oh, I know, it’s because they’re still Communist thugs.
We really need to come up with a cool graphic so show the Communist mass-murderers in Beijing fear our words so much, they won’t let their subjects view them.
I really have to thank whoever brought my Wisconsin-specific missive to WPRI’s attention. I’m not nearly as well-connected or as polished as the 20 people who wrote the “official” responses or Lance Burri (case in point, I’m just now linking to his answer), but the question is something that has been troubling me since the 2006 elections.
I guess I had best step up the quality and quantity several notches now that I have a wider audience.
When I upgraded to WordPress 2.2, one of the critical files for the RSS feeds didn’t upload properly, and thus the feeds broke. Because I use FeedBurner, you didn’t notice a thing (other than the lack of updates), and I didn’t find out until I checked my e-mail. In any case, it’s fixed.
I’ve been busy the last hour or so upgrading to the current version of WordPress (2.2), the current beta version of Journalized, my current theme (2.0 beta 2), and the almost-ready-for-release version of WP-Polls, which will allow for multiple answers if I choose (2.20). I know I lost a comment or two, so if you’ve been here between about 2:30 and 4:30 this afternoon and don’t see your comment up, please resend it to the thread you put it in.
Sorry about that.

In an attempt to shield reporters from having to disclose their confidential sources, Texas Senator Rodney Ellis (D-Houston) very pointedly sought to exclude bloggers from this protection. The Houston Chronicle has the money quote – “It does not cover the garden-variety blogger sitting in their pajamas at home ranting and raving on the computer.” Houston, we have a problem, and it’s not just this politico’s derision for his constituents.
There is a back-door method to gain this protection, however. From the text of the bill (which is poised to pass the Texas Senate):
Sec. 22.021. DEFINITIONS. In this subchapter:
….
(2) “Journalist” means a person who for financial
gain, for a substantial portion of the person’s livelihood, or for
subscription purposes gathers, compiles, prepares, collects,
photographs, records, writes, edits, reports, investigates,
processes, or publishes news or information that is disseminated by
a news medium or communication service provider and includes:
(A) a person who supervises or assists in
gathering, preparing, and disseminating the news or information;
(B) a person who is or has been a journalist,
scholar, or researcher employed by an institution of higher
education; or
(C) a person who is on a professional track to
earn a significant portion of the person’s livelihood by obtaining
or preparing information for dissemination by a news medium or an
agent, assistant, employee, or supervisor of that person.
(3) “News medium” means a newspaper, magazine or
periodical, book publisher, news agency, wire service, radio or
television station or network, cable, satellite, or other
transmission system or carrier or channel, or a channel or
programming service for a station, network, system, or carrier, or
an audio or audiovisual production company or Internet company or
provider, or the parent, subsidiary, division, or affiliate of that
entity, that disseminates news or information to the public by any
means, including:
(A) print;
(B) television;
(C) radio;
(D) photographic;
(E) mechanical;
(F) electronic; and
(G) other means, known or unknown, that are
accessible to the public.
Revisons/extensions (8:14 am 4/30/2007) – Get me more caffeine; I completely forgot to add the ironic title of this piece of rotted sausage – “The Free Flow of Information Act”.
I’m not going to agree with these people, oh, 99.9999% of the time, but in the end, we all drink very well, they’re good folk (as long as we stay out of politics), and we have some other things in common (besides, it helps to keep an eye on the opposition). So, please welcome:
It definitely was good to drink with you guys and many more at Caffrey’s. We have to do more Just Drinkings.
This one could get interesting. JSOnline mashed together 4 Milwaukee-area Legislators, 2 from each house, 2 from each party, and stuck them on the same blog called Backroom Blog. Representing the elephant are Sen. Neal Kedzie (11th Senate District-Elkhorn) and Rep. Leah Vukmir (14th Assembly District-Wauwatosa). Representing the donkey are Sen. Jeff Plale (7th Senate District-South Milwaukee) and Rep. Jason Fields (11th Assembly District-Milwaukee).
I’m keeping an eye on this one, especially since we’re already starting on the beanballs. You should too, unless you don’t like sausage-making.
One message to the JSOnline folks; please do a better job on the RSS feeds. The current set of feeds, when they’re working, do not link properly to internal links (likely because you guys are using relative rather than absolute addresses), don’t offer links to individual posts (which makes it nigh impossible to link back to you) and don’t have any real formatting. When they’re not working (which is way too often), the attempts at formatting and linking result in the code followed by the HTML for >, and the feeds fail to validate and parse.
Revisions/extensions (8:58 am 4/27/2007) – And then there were none. All I have to do is remember to get the move done by May 15 and I don’t have to pay another $12 to Yahoo). I THINK I could have kept the subdomain up once I moved everything to Bluehost, but I didn’t feel like nesting subdomains in subfolders.
At the beginning of the day yesterday, there were 6 blogs that still had this place at norunnyeggs.eggstor.com (thank you, Technorati, for keeping track of links). A couple months ago, I moved off of that particular host because of a combination of a not-quite-complete support of WordPress and certain issues with using subdomains, and created a permanent redirect here (useful for those that were still clicking their way there). Indeed, one of the reasons why I am using FeedBurner for my RSS feeds is there is a plugin that forces a redirect of the feed; and I used that to force those still sitting on the norunnyeggs.eggstor.com feed to the feed from here.
Anyway, I figured it’s been long enough, and I really would like to move the parent eggstor.com domain over here (Bluehost does let me have 6 domains parked here) while I decide what I want to do with it. So, I bugged all 6 people (4 through e-mail, 2 through posts on their blogs), and I got 5 of them to update their rolls. Surprisingly, Charlie was one of those that finally got with the program.
Hopefully, some more-persistent bugging of the holdout will finally get that person to update their roll today.
See-dubya, who occassionally guest-blogs at HotAir when Allahpundit is off “investigating” things at places like the Pink Sapphire (favorite haunt of the Breck Girl, John Edwards), has a regular home, JunkYardBlog. Don’t mind the friendly red canine with the spike collar; he’s really harmless (once you feed him a few steaks and throw the blog on your blogrolls and feed readers, that is).
…or at least the eggstor.com version of the blog did. The Blogfather redid his blogroll again (to add Chris Schneider’s two new haunts), and the good news is NRE is still there. The not-so-good news is he still has it at norunnyeggs.eggstor.com, but it doesn’t much matter because I’ve got a redirect to here. Of course, that means I can’t quite get rid of eggstor.com yet.
Hey Charlie, get with the program. I really would like to keep $12/month in my pocket by jettisoning the old domain.
First things first, I finally found a proper preview function for WordPress – Filosofo Comments Preview. The page says it works straight out of the box for WP 2.0.x and 2.1.x, and its creator is running it on 2.2 “almost-beta”, so go grab it, especially since I still haven’t found a satisfactory way to allow you to edit comments after they post. Unlike Live Preview, which I had before, it formats a lot better to how it actually happens. I’ve also put up the allowable tags on the comments page.
Item #2; I’ve added some basic admin tools to the top of the page. Those of you logged in will see a link to access to your profile and a logout link; those of you not logged in will see links to login and register. Unless you’re Aaron, Fred, Patrick, or me, the only benefit of logging in is seeing your name up top.

Very interesting. I would’ve thought that Kos (point #1) would be closer to the pr0n group (point #5) than Michelle. Also, knowing sports guys (point #6), putting them as a polar opposite to the pr0n group is “odd”.
Oh, and where’s MySpace? :-)

If you guys aren’t yet reading JammieWearingFool, you should be.
Next, please welcome The Crocodile Cage to the Cheddarsphere.
Revisions/extensions (3:32 pm 4/21/2007) – I knew I forgot somebody; I should’ve finished catching up on my reading.
Hello!
My name is Aaron. I’ll be watching over you for the next few days (with help from Patrick and Fred).
As your blogsitter, consider this your only warning: discipline will be swift and severe. Everybody try to behave, and maybe we’ll watch some dirty movies together. Just don’t tell your parents.
My younger sister is getting married in Jamaica, so I’ll be gone until sometime Friday. Partly because the hotel I’ll be in doesn’t have free internet, and partly because I still don’t have a laptop, I won’t be here to blog. Worse, I don’t think I have enough material to pass off on the Emergency Blogging System to keep it active every day, but there will be some stuff coming from the EBS.
However, I have lined up some guest bloggers. Please welcome:
– Patrick from Badger Blogger
– Aaron from Subject 2 Change
– Uncle Fred from Real Debate Wisconsin
If you don’t have these guys on your blogroll, you’re missing a lot of good stuff.
Took me a while to realize that the public version of StatCounter’s stats gives way too much potentially-identifiable information to anybody out there. I’ll still be using them to collect my stats, but they won’t be publicly-available anymore. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Thanks to Pete for digging out the fact that SiteMeter has been planting tracking advertising cookies from Specific Media’s specificclick.net in its stat-generation code. Because I HATE tracking cookies and third-party crap, I dumped them from both here and the TownHall version of NRE. At the same time, StatCounter said that it specifically rejected Specific Media’s offer, so I now have their counter installed (at least here; I can’t install it over at the TownHall version). I do automatically reject third-party cookies with Internet Explorer (there’s no direct analog in Firefox, but I keep a tight leash there), so it didn’t affect me directly; however, most people aren’t savvy enough to do so. I apologize for unknowingly planting Specific Media’s crap on your computer.
The good news is that StatCounter has an invisible counter, which I took advantage of. The bad is that it’s a bit harder for you mugs to see just how few of you there are, so I dumped a “Site Stats” link in the Internal links section of the left sidebar.
I’ve also enlisted FeedBurner’s site stats, which is why you’re seeing an “Email this” link in the posts both on the site and in the feed, and seeing “Subscribe to this feed” in the posts on the site.
