No Runny Eggs

The repository of one hard-boiled egg from the south suburbs of Milwaukee, Wisconsin (and the occassional guest-blogger). The ramblings within may or may not offend, shock and awe you, but they are what I (or my guest-bloggers) think.

Biggest spike yet, and Open Thread Thursday

by @ 14:35. Filed under Open Thread Thursday, The Blog.

Who knew putting up a couple of videos would really drive up the traffic? According to StatCounter:

– Something over 200 of the last 400 or so visitors (they track the last 500 page hits) popped in from Boots and Sabers.
– 172 of you viewed my mini-album of the rally, even though for space’s sake I put it below the fold.
– UJ (or somebody else at the Isthmus) gave me some link love. Thank you.

However you got here, welcome to the party. I’ve got some things I’m working up, but until then, consider this your Open Thread Thursday thread.

Roll bloat – the belated DAD edition

by @ 14:16. Filed under The Blog.

I’m about 2 weeks late to this, but it’s a big update:

The American Infidels
Tea Party – Sam Adams Alliance
Dry Fly Politics
Gay Patriot
Fausta’s Blog
Right Angle Blog

Now you guys and gals have even more good reading material, especially when I’ve got nothing and I forgot to tell the guest bloggers.

The Taxpayer Rally – video of Fred

The Taxpayer Rally – in pictures

by @ 22:56. Filed under Politics - Wisconsin, The Blog.

If you’re looking for pics of the oh-so-tolerant left, this isn’t the place to find them. If you’re looking for rally pics, read on below the fold, and click on any of the thumbnails to make them as full-sized as I will make them and still save my bandwidth. If you’re wondering why I don’t have any pics of Fred or Owen, it’s because I have video of them.

Roll bloat – the flipping edition

by @ 21:47. Filed under The Blog.

It may be called Suitably Flip, but it’s anything but flippant. The proprietor, Flip, has been tracking the Hsu money like a hound dog, and Tom Vilsack was one of those. He’s also anticipating finding $850,000 or so in Hsu refunds from the Hiliary campaign (which reminds me; time to check again; it’s 10:47 pm on the East Coast).

Roll bloat – anti-ACLU edition

by @ 17:54. Filed under The Blog.

It’s actually a double-dose of additions, as both Stop the ACLU and that blog’s and JammieWearingFool contributor Weasel Zippers get crammed onto the roll. I should’ve done that long before now.

Say it ain’t so – UPDATE – it ain’t so

by @ 19:25. Filed under The Blog.

Billiam’s giving up the Cheap Seats view. Hopefully he’ll reconsider, but he’s pretty burnt out by the state of politics.

Revisions/extensions (7:33 am 10/12/2007) – Like the update says, he’s reconsidered. If you took him off your rolls and feed readers, please put him back.

Roll bloat – the modern edition

by @ 12:14. Filed under The Blog.

How I forgot to add Modern Commentaries before now I’ll never know. That oversight is now corrected. Hopefully, you didn’t forget to add Amy and Dave to your blogrolls and feed readers like I did.

2007 Weblog Awards nominations now open

by @ 16:12. Filed under The Blog.

The 2007 Weblog Awards

Mash the button above to start nominating worthy blogs (if you nominate me for anything, please let me know so I can hunt you down and ki…er, thank you). You’ll be able to do so until 10/15/2007.

One thing the organizers ask; please read the nominations before duplicating a nomination. If you like someone that’s already nominated, they do have a very informal way to register that; just click on the “+” sign next to the nominee.

Roll bloat – 800-lb gorilla edition

by @ 18:09. Filed under The Blog.

That 800-lb gorilla would be Pajamas Media. Now, who thought that I was worthy of a link from there? Thank you.

Roll bloat – more south-of-the-border edition

by @ 7:55. Filed under The Blog.

Once again, I’m only dipping a bit south of the Root River, and Stu doesn’t post much, but when he does, Ravings From A Right Wing Wacko is one hellova read.

Slight change in the Teatotaler link structure

by @ 18:21. Filed under The Blog.

With Bad Behavior behaving badly, I disabled it. Unfortunately, it also invited in some spammy comments, and my suite of anti-spam software does not fully-work with the default link structure. I’ve now adopted a “pretty permalink” structure.

Don’t worry; you do not have to go back through your archives to fix links to old posts. WordPress is still smart enough to recognize the /?p=x links and get them to the right page.

Road trip tomorrow

by @ 8:27. Filed under The Blog.

Fred, Mark Block, Leslie Graves, about 1,600 of my new closest friends, and I will be in DC tomorrow and Friday for Americans For Prosperity’s Defending the American Dream summit. Many of the Republican candidates for President will be there, including Sam Brownback, Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee, John McCain, Ron Paul, Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson. No Runny Eggs will be bringing you double-barrel coverage, with Leslie joining me from Bloggers’ Row.

I’ve got my shiny almost-new camera (freshly loaded with a 2 GB memory card and a second in reserve), a digital voice recorder with USB transfer cable; all I need to do is pick up a spare battery for the laptop.

Roll bloat – sanity in Madistan version

by @ 18:37. Filed under The Blog.

Guess it’s now my quest to link to every conservative Madison blogger. Madison Conservative, who runs Conservativism from the Progressive birthplace, gets on for a multitude of reasons, not the least of which is the fact that he hates Jim “Craps” Doyle (WEAC/Potawatomi-For Sale) as much as I do.

Roll bloat – the animal edition

by @ 15:59. Filed under The Blog.

I’ve been meaning to do this for quite a while, but I just kept on putting it off. The Tygrrrrr Express should join the list of blogs you grab the feed for.

WordPress 2.3

by @ 16:26. Filed under The Blog.

The Latest & Greatest™ version of WordPress is out there and now on here. Its neatest little trick is automatically checking for updates of both the core and (most) of the plugins. I don’t get into tags, so I won’t be using them.

Among those updated plugins is Peter’s Custom Anti-Spam. The big thing there is the ability to generate an audio file for those that can’t see the anti-spam word, though it chokes on special characters. Also, f you do get it wrong, you can now copy your comment before hitting the “back” button to try again.

Revisions/extensinos (4:48 pm 9/27/2007) – Bad Behavior runs VERY slow with certain elements of the site. Sorry about that; it’s now deactivated.

Blogging light until Tuesday

by @ 7:56. Filed under The Blog.

I’m moving today, and since the cable/internet connection isn’t going until Tuesday (being shut off at the old place Monday), I’ll be on the laptop until then. The guest-blogging sign is lit.

New guest blogger

by @ 15:02. Filed under The Blog.

Please welcome Leslie Graves, from State Sunshine and Open Records. She’ll be on Bloggers’ Row at Defending the American Dream, and since her home blog is “narrowly” focused on spreading the light of day on government, she asked to guest-blog here.

Sorry about that

by @ 17:45. Filed under The Blog.

The service had a bit of a hiccup. I had one of BlueHost’s optimizations active, and that choked up the entire site. BlueHost’s customer service got me up quick once I got to them (waited an hour while I cut the grass, so that delay was my fault).

Roll bloat – south of the border edition

by @ 17:35. Filed under The Blog.

Well, not that far south of the border; just on the other side of the Root River. Caledonia Unplugged focuses on what used to be Wisconsin’s largest town.

Links bloat – the “influential” edition

by @ 21:21. Filed under The Blog.

BlogNetNews Wisconsin, a decent aggregator of the Cheddarsphere, just started an influence index. Inexplicably, I’m #4. Must be that Jack Bauer’s working for them in Season 7 because there’s no way I’m nearly that influential.

They’re not a blog, so I can’t throw them in the roll. If I had room for a 4th column, I’d run their aggregator, but I’ve got too much crap the way it is :-)

Roll bloat – 85% agree edition

by @ 20:00. Filed under The Blog.

While I disagree with Stan’s thoughts on the Pask case, I don’t quite hold that against him. Free Constitution is a good read and worthy addition to the roll.

Roll bloat – the visits edition

by @ 18:34. Filed under The Blog.

Item #1 – Keith Conrad, late of the Daily Early (thanks, Patrick) Spin.

Item #2 – State Sunshine and Open Records, an open-government effort.

Roll bloat – the forgetful edition

by @ 15:49. Filed under The Blog.

I’ve had Right from the Right in SharpReader for quite a while, so imagine my surprise when somebody (no, not The Game) pointed out that it was missing from the roll.

Oversight corrected.

Roll bloat – Star Wars edition

by @ 7:36. Filed under The Blog.

I’m slowly, but surely, working the national blogs into the rotation. This time, it’s The Jawa Report.

Revisions/extensions (10:05 pm 9/10/2007) – Fixed link. D’OH!
