Writers? We don’t need no steenkin’ writers!

by @ 20:07. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Yesterday was supposed to be the first episode of Season 7 of “24”, with today being the first Monday with Jack Bauer before Congress and Tony Almeida fucking with the air traffic control system. However, since the writers and the studios can’t pull their collective heads out of their collective asses, the fine folks at Blogs4Bauer have stepped up to the plate.

The following takes place between 8 am and 9 am and between 9 am and 10 am….

$10 at 10 for Fred

by @ 18:41. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Some of the Fredheads over at the Fred File came up with the idea to kick in another $10 to the red truck’s tanks at 10 pm local. Sounds like a good idea.

So, if you didn’t hit your $2,300 limit yet, and you have $10 floating around that wallet, donate that $10 at 10 pm local.

Revisions/extensions (8:18 pm 1/14/2008) – The re-revised goal of $1,000,000 by midnight Eastern tonight has been busted, as the truck had $1,000,932 in it at 8:15 pm. The $10 at 10 is still on.

Talk like Jack Bauer today, dammit!

by @ 11:56. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Even though the writers’ strike has blown up Season 7 of “24” (dammit, Fox!) the fine folks at Blogs4Bauer are still having Talk Like Jack Bauer Day today (thank you). For those of you who don’t know how to talk like Jack, B4B has a handy guide. Go read it, or I’ll use this rusty pen knife on your eyes. I’ll start with the right eye, and move to the left.

If you don’t feel like talking like Jack after reading that, I’ve got a wet towel that I’ll shove down your throat, all the day, only I’ll hold onto the end of it. When your stomach starts digesting the towel, I’ll yank it back out, and take your stomach lining with it. Now, you will talk like Jack Bauer, won’t you?

Time to declare an AoS war on St. Charles, MO

by @ 15:30. Filed under Miscellaneous.

(H/T – Mike/The Jawa Report)

A couple of tenents of the Ace of Spades lifestyle will soon be banned in St. Charles, Missouri bars, at least if the politicos have their way. The city fathers want to ban table-dancing, drinking games, and vulgar language. Those that have sensitive eyes, don’t click the “more” to hear my response; the rest of you, click away…

Lethal cuteness, part zwei

by @ 14:44. Filed under Miscellaneous.

(H/T – Dave in Texas/AoSHQ)

That’s right, kids, those crazy German zoos are at again. It seems the Nuremburg Zoo found the perfect mate for Knut, a 4-week-old female polar bear taken from her mother after the mother exhibited some of the same behaviors as another polar bear mother who practiced some post-partum abortion on her cubs.

No word yet on whether Allahpundit will bless the eventual union.

New Hampshire fallout

by @ 12:08. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Unlike last time, I won’t be creating a mega-link post. My head is still spinning from an ugly head cold (no, Drinking Right didn’t have anything to do with it; in fact, I attribute the fact that I’m still standing to the 3 Heinekens I had last night), so somebody else can do the collation and get the glory. Before I get to my view from the bunker, however, I do want to point you in the direction of a pro, Brian Fraley. He’s been at this for a while, and more importantly from an objectivity standpoint, his company, The Markesian Group, doesn’t yet have a dog in this fight (attention, your attention please; those campaigns that think they’ll survive until February 19th ought to be considering hiring them to do at least the Wisconsin portion of their campaign). His point; politics is not “Survivor”.

Now, on to my view. In what is a bit of a switch, I’ll take the Republicans first, because there are fewer surprises here. First things first; can we please retire the myth that New Hampshire is a small-government state? True, Fred Thompson kissed off NH, but Ron Paul (who, whatever fatal faults he has, is a no-government type) supposedly burned a lot of his gold there. Their combined NH totals – 9% (I don’t have who all was involved in the 2% write-in totals).

Sticking with Paul, I once again overestimated the Paul-Nut factor. Can it be that his mile-deep support is but an inch wide, or is it that a lot of that “support” is actually coming from the other end of the aisle?

Similarily, I underestimated the support for Mike Huckabee. I am sticking with my earlier assertion that NH is not Evangelical-friendly, though I have to admit I underestimated the effect of the Iowa bounce.

Now, onto the Democrats. How did everybody get this one so wrong? I guess everybody, me included, got wrapped up in Obamamania, and New Hampshire women decided to give us a snow job after Hillary Clinton’s play of the crying card. I guess that old saying has truth – Hell hath no fury like wymyn scorned.

Regarding John Edwards, I believe Marcellus Wallace said it best: “You came close, but you never made it. And if you were gonna make it, you would have made it before now.”

Is Clinton done?

by @ 15:39. Filed under Miscellaneous.

The signs are starting to show up:

– The blogosphere is all a-twitter over a Drudge Scoop™ that she is looking for a graceful exit to save the “Clinton brand”.
– She has pulled out the crying card.
– The phones aren’t getting answered in New Hampshire (or do they have call-waiting and have been instructed to avoid MKH?).

Feed housekeeping – Flopping Aces

by @ 7:32. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Revisions/extensions (4:13 pm 1/7/2008) – Curt’s also moved his feed to FeedBurner. The previous link I had here will work as well, though the original Flopping Aces feed will no longer work.

Just like VodkaPundit before him, Curt has moved Flopping Aces to WordPress. For those of you who read the site through your feed reader, you’re going to have to change the feed to http://feeds.feedburner.com/FloppingAces”.

Feed housekeeping – VodkaPundit

by @ 18:24. Filed under Miscellaneous.

For those of you who use VodkaPundit’s feed to read Stephen Green, you’re probably wondering where he is. No, he hasn’t dropped off the face of the earth; he just switched from Movable Type to WordPress. That has made the old feed address unusable, so make a note of the new one – http://vodkapundit.com/?feed=rss2.

If You Could Only Watch 5 Cable TV Networks For The Rest Of Your Life, What Would They Be?

by @ 22:14. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Entertainment Weekly asks, Tom McMahon answers. My 5:

1. Fox News Channel – I need the news.
2. History Channel – “Dogfights”, “Mail Call”, “Modern Marvels”, need I go on? (I’d wish they’d reintroduce Sworn to Secrecy” to the rotation)
3. ESPN – I need my sports.
4. Discovery Channel – “Mythbusters”, “Man vs Wild”.
5. AMC – Movies.

Drinking Right – January 2008 edition

by @ 21:30. Filed under Miscellaneous.

I haven’t seen anything official at the usual places, but I could’ve swore that this coming Tuesday, January 8, is the second Tuesday of the month. As such, I shall be back at Papa’s Social Club (7718 W Burleigh in Milwaukee) at 7 pm.

Unlike the George Thorogood song, I don’t prefer to drink by myself, so be there or be somewhere (but preferably there).

Clinton’s reaction, the uncensored version

by @ 8:38. Filed under Miscellaneous.

This uncensored version of Camp Clinton’s reaction as transcribed by Fred will be below the fold because it is rated NC-17 for language. For those of you who get the feed (actually, those that got the feed before I managed to figure out how to make the feed obey the “more” tag), I apologize.

RIP, Gov. Dreyfus

by @ 14:58. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Lee Dreyfus was a bit before my time (I was still in elementary school when he was governor), but by all accounts, he was a good man. He passed away last night:

Former Gov. Lee Sherman Dreyfus, who served one term starting in 1979, died at his Waukesha home Wednesday night, his son said Thursday. He was 81.

Dreyfus died while watching television, said his son, Lee Dreyfus Jr.

He was elected governor in 1978, upsetting U.S. Rep. Bob Kasten in the Republican primary and then defeating acting Gov. Martin Schreiber in the general election. He served in the post for four years.

Can you drive a stick?

by @ 15:29. Filed under Miscellaneous.

That’s the question Chris the head barkeep asks. Me? Oh, hell yeah. I’ve owned 7 cars; 4 of them, including the last 3, have had that third pedal. It is great knowing that, when I do my poor rally driver imitation in the snow, I can judge just how much throttle I can give to hang the tail of the car out as far as I want and no further without the transmission grabbing another gear and messing that up.

Guess that calls for another NRE poll… :-)

Can you drive a stick?

Up to 1 answer(s) was/were allowed

  • Yes. (50%, 56 Vote(s))
  • Like a race car driver. (38%, 42 Vote(s))
  • No. (9%, 10 Vote(s))
  • What did you just say? (4%, 4 Vote(s))

Total Voters: 112

Revisions/extensions (8:24 pm 1/2/2008) – I’ll figure out how to test those of you who say “like a race car driver”.

Prost for your health!

by @ 21:12. Filed under Miscellaneous.

(H/T – Free Republic)

A German study found that xanthohumol, found in hops and a key ingredient in proper beers, inhibits a family of enzymes that can trigger the cancer process, as well as help the body detoxify carcinogens. Not to be outdone, researchers at Oregon State found xanthohumol can kill breast, colon, ovarian and prostate cancer.

Bottoms up!

Fred vs the media – snowball edition

by @ 10:18. Filed under Miscellaneous.

I didn’t comment on this yesterday because I’m not generally given to commenting on the puff pieces. However, Bryan and the Hot Air commenters are making the video of Thompson getting back at a couple of reporters…

…who targeted one of his staff with a snowball viral by wondering what the other candidates would have done.

Eggs on the ‘Net radio

by @ 19:20. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Jim Lynch, proprietor of bRight & Early, invited me on his bRight @ Night BlogTalkRadio show tonight at 9:30 pm to talk about the Thompson blogburst. Fortunately, I have at best third billing, because Jim also invited Rick Moran, the guy behind the blogburst, as well as Sean Hackbarth from the Thompson campaign.

The call-in number there is (718) 664-9725.

Fred Blogburst – Day 2 – SUCCESS!

by @ 14:42. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Well, it’s down to the wire. I wish I didn’t have to say that it was Day 2 of the blogburst, or down to the wire, but we don’t have the big money of a Giuliani or a Paul or a Clinton or an Obama. What we do have is numbers of ordinary people who have settled on Fred Thompson as their person for the White House.

As of 2:30 pm Central, or 2 1/2 hours from H-hour, we still needed $29,481 in the back of the red pickup. While we’ve raised enough to get the “Substance” ad on the air for a couple days, it’s not quite enough to keep it on the air through January 2.

Jim Lynch suggested skipping a couple lunches; I know I need to.

Fred took some time to film a combination “thank you/close that gap” message…

Now, get that truck filled up.

Revisions/extensions (7:09 pm 12/28/2007) – We did it. I was out battling the white death here in my corner of the land of cheese and beer so I don’t know what time we hit the mark, but as of 5:19 pm Central, the truck had $254,760. I thank you, and the Thompson campaign thanks you.

Fred Thompson Blogburst – Marbleheaders for Fred

by @ 17:46. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Revisions/extensions (5:46 pm 12/27/2007) – Bumped to the top. Fresher stuff below.

Revisions/extensions part 2 (10:44 pm 12/28/2007) – I guess I should’ve left a link to Day 2, but we were successful even without that. Thank you.

Rick Moran suggested it yesterday, and it’s conveniently timed with the return of the red pickup truck, so here’s my little pitch. While we’re not asking for a whole lot of money to get Thompson’s latest commercial…

Click to play

…on the air in Iowa, $248,846 by sundown Friday isn’t insignificant. So, if you are an American citizen, haven’t yet hit $2,300 in donations to the Thompson campaign, and have a bit of cash to spare, mash the button below to help fill up, nay, overflow that pick-em-up today.

Fred08 - Contribute Now

We Marbleheaders for Fred (thanks for the saying, Rick) have to start leveraging everything we have to get some momentum going against the conventional wisdom. Thompson is, by any conventional measure, up against it, and he’s the last conservative standing. All that’s standing between us and a continued slide to socialism are us. The original Marbleheaders were instrumental in getting the Continental Army across the Delaware 231 years and a couple nights ago to deliver an upset victory in the Battle of Trenton to the Americans. It’s our turn.

Cougars set loose in Manitowoc by punks, recaught

by @ 11:58. Filed under Miscellaneous.

The details, such as they are, are over on JSOnline’s DayWatch. Two things:

– Who knew Manitowoc had a zoo, much less cougars in said zoo?
– Why couldn’t the cougars have had a midnight punk snack?

by @ 13:09. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Revisions/extensions (12:05 pm 12/27/2007 – steveegg) – That’s the last time I let the EBS do the math.

This is the Emergency Blogging System. It has been activated because the moron that runs this place wanted it activated.

The Cheddarsphere Holiday Party begins at high noon, December 30, 2007, at Papa’s Social Club. Head over to Real Debate Wisconsin to RSVP and more details.

Have a blessed Christmas

by @ 0:01. Filed under Miscellaneous.

If this looks familiar, it should be.

The account of Jesus’ birth from Luke 2:1-12 (NIV):

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to his own town to register.

So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem, the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."
