If you aren’t depressed enough by the last few months of Washington tomfoolery, take a look at the “inspirational” posters on this site:

The repository of one hard-boiled egg from the south suburbs of Milwaukee, Wisconsin (and the occassional guest-blogger). The ramblings within may or may not offend, shock and awe you, but they are what I (or my guest-bloggers) think.

That’s what noted man made global warming alarmist, James Hansen, believes is necessary to get legislation enacted to keep the world from going “pooof!” Hansen’s lament?
“The democratic process doesn’t quite seem to be working.”
“The democratic process is supposed to be one person one vote, but it turns out that money is talking louder than the votes. So, I’m not surprised that people are getting frustrated. I think that peaceful demonstration is not out of order, because we’re running out of time.”
In a rare instance I agree with Hansen, money has been talking louder than votes. Money, for people like Hansen and Al Gore, got a stampede going for global warming based on “research” that is being routinely disproved and thoughtful, analytical, actual environment scientists are looking at the hysteric’s claims.
As to Hansen’s cry of “one person, one vote,” perhaps he would want to consider this:
It’s been an axiom of mine that people who hyperventilate and avoid dealing with facts, tend not to be folks you should trust. Beyond that, if Hansen is so concerned about money impacting government policy, might I suggest he could look into the sources of the online fundraising for one, Barack Obama?
Dan Collins has decreed today to be National Iowahawk Day. That’s right; we’re celebrating the best humor on the Web.
Some other people are able to at least try and match Iowahawk’s genius; I simply marvel at it. If I were healthier, I’d probably make my way to Meier’s Tavern in Glenview, IL at 8:30 tonight.
Thanks to Fred for providing me the screen cap, and thanks to the gang at Blogs.4Bauer for giving me the keys to the place…
I hope you’ll indulge me a little “24” news, mostly because my Gravatar is Big Bad Bill Buchanan. He made the ultimate sacrifice so that President Allison Taylor would get rescued from General Juma and company.
Rest in peace, Bill.
If the 2nd Tuesday of the month is around the corner, it’s Drinking Right time. It’s at the usual time (7 pm, and that’s Daylight Slavings Time) and the usual place (Papa’s Social Club, 7718 W Burleigh in Milwaukee).
I should be completely sober by then, so be there or be nowhere.
I will be there at 8 o’clock Central. Will you? Did you remember to move your clocks ahead so you won’t run out of time?
This is the Emergency Blogging System. It has been activated because Steve is decompressing from the Defending the American Dream-Wisconsin summit and is running out of time.
For those of you in the US (and not in those parts that don’t observe Daylight Savings), Daylight Savings Time starts at 2 am local time tomorrow. If you have a WordPress blog (whether it is on WordPress.com, a WordPress stand-alone, or WordPress MU – this includes Blogivists and Conservablogs), and you aren’t using UTC, you need to change it to Daylight Savings Time (Central UTC -5, Mountain UTC -6, Eastern UTC -4, Pacific UTC -7, and check your clock for other locales). To do so, go into your wp-admin panel, select "Settings", and under the "General Settings" page that pops up, select the right time zone. Don’t forget to hit "save" when you’re done.
You have been issued official news, instructions and information. For the next just-under-6-hours, this blog will be an hour into the future. This concludes this broadcast of the Emergency Blogging System.
I’m glad I’m not alone on Bloggers’ Row. Also on the case today:
– Fred Dooley, both on Real DebateWisconsin and his Twitter feed
– Kyle Maichle on North Shore Exponent
– Jessi Olson on both Wake Up America and her Twitter stream
– James Wigderson on Wigderson Library & Pub
– Josh Schroeder on his Twitter stream
– Brian Fraley on his Twitter stream
Also, Patrick Dorwin of Badger Blogger is here with his videocam.
A lot of my stuff will be up on my Twitter stream, which you can find on either the right sidebar or here. I’m trying to get the others, like Fred, to use the #afpwi hashtag.
In the past few weeks we’ve been led to believe that greed, and greed alone, was our undoing and thus placed us squarely in this economic morass. And to some degree this account has merit, but as Mr. Friedman points out in this dated, yet timeless explanation, what society doesn’t run on greed? And to that end, the free enterprise system has no equal in the annals of history as an economic engine that powers prosperity for the people.
Alexander just could not let Wisconsin not be represented in last Friday’s Chicago Tea Party. Wherever there is out-of-control government growth/spending/taxation, there will be resistance.
If it’s Monday and it’s between the NFL Divisional Playoffs and the Monday before Memorial Day, it’s time for 24. Tonight is a bit special; it’s a 2-hour event, so the fun starts in less than 8 minutes (unless you’re on the Left Coast, then it starts at 8 pm your time). Since my younger brother-in-law has the evening off of his job, I’ll actually be able to watch tonight.
In fact, I’ll be over at the Blogs.4Bauer liveblog. Come on over!
As you watch the Obama Administration:
Are you feeling like you’re living in the middle of a made for TV movie? Do you wonder how this can possibly be happening and why didn’t someone see this coming? Someone did.
If you haven’t, or even if you have but it’s been awhile, go out this weekend and plunk down $8.95 for the paperback version of Atlas Shrugged. Yes, it’s a long book but you don’t need to read it all this weekend. Find time to read the first 200 pages. We will be testing on your assignment next week!
Reason.tv salutes you, Mr. Plagiarizing, Gaffe-Prone, Hair-Plug-Wearing Vice President.
You’ve got to love the Reason TV folks…equal opportunity skewerers!
Tonight, 7 pm – Blog ‘n Grog, Sprizzos, 363 W Main in Waukesha (yes, this will preclude my participation in any ObamiNation address live thread)
Tonight, sometime after 9pm (if I’m not completely hammered from playing an ObamiNation drinking game) – Papa’s Fat Tuesday party, 7718 W Burleigh in Milwaukee
Tomrrow through Sunday – CPAC.
Is it just me or has Tim Geithner been noticeably absent since his ill fated coming out event with Congress.
I’m sure there’s no reason for concern but just in case, it may not hurt to distribute the following:
Yes, you read that correctly. It’s entirely possible that there is another housing bubble coming.
Francis Cianfrocca tries to figure out what exactly the latest, no details included, proposal from President Obama means.
Yesterday, President Obama rolled out “a plan” to help homeowners who are behind on their payments. Cianfrocca believes based on:
uniformly-enthusiastic reactions of banking-industry executives and spokesmen,
Cianfrocca believes that the $75 billion in Obama’s plan leads directly back to the banks/mortgage holders.
Cianfrocca believes the plan will work as such:
I think the proposal is intended to directly supplement mortgage payments for millions of people (using the 31%-of-pretax-income benchmark for mortgage affordability). There are reports that the plan will somehow facilitate refinancings at lower interest rates, which is somewhat similar in effect. If I’m right, this is effectively the same as reducing people’s mortgage payments (but not their mortgage principal amounts) to a level that reflects current market reality.
Great! We’ve solved all the housing problems for the low, low price of $75 billion dollars! Now that we’ve fixed it and we’ve learned from our past, all will be right as rain from here on out!
Um, no:
If the program proves popular, however, look for it to expand. And if that happens, look for the fortunes of the homebuilding industry to recover.
This sounds good, but it’s very evil. We have far too much housing already in this country, the residue of the last housing bubble. If we get another one now due to government deliberately overvaluing mortgages, we’ve set the stage for yet another nasty crash in some future year.
Just one more example where President Obama appears to “Hope” there will be “Change” that will be different than the most likely outcome of his plans.
“American Pravda” reports on Nancy Pelosi’s meeting with the Pope. According to sources at the Vatican the Pope told Speaker Pelosi that
all Catholics"”especially legislators, jurists and political leaders"”should work to create “a just system of laws capable of protecting human life at all stages of its development.”
Evidently, this is Vatican code language for an expression often used by the pope when expressing opposition to abortion.
I wonder if Nancy used the bipartisan, New Obama English and explained her position to the Pope by saying:
I won!
If it’s the 2nd Tuesday of the month, we’re drinking. As usual, the details are at the official home:
Date: February 10, 2009
Time: 7 pm – ???
Place: Papa’s Social Club, 7718 W Burleigh in Milwaukee
If you have to stay in Racine County to oppose KRM, we will keep the beer cold for you.
Most of this is assuming me being in better shape than I’m in (very sore throat, rather tired), but here’s what’s happening around town that I’m shooting for:
– Saturday 2/6, 2:30 pm-3:30 pm – Rose Fernandez listening session, Mayfair Mall, Community Room 150, 2500 N. Mayfair Rd. in Wauwatosa. Rose is a candidate for state superintendent, and the one I’m supporting.
– Tuesday 2/10, 7 pm-??? – Drinking Right, Papa’s Social Club, 7718 W. Burleigh St. in Milwaukee. If it’s the second Tuesday of the month, and the first one isn’t Election Night, it’s all about being drinking.
– Wednesday 2/11, 6:30 pm-9 pm – Oak Creek Mayoral Candidate forum, Oak Creek Community Center, 8580 S. Howell Ave. in Oak Creek. Come meet all three candidates running for Oak Creek Mayor, incumbent Dick Bolender, Alderman Mark Verhalen and Alderwoman Dimity Grabowski, and learn about the issues in the race. Side note; I do have a short questionnarie out to all three candidates and hope to have responses from all of them prior to this event.
– Tuesday 2/24, 7 pm-??? – Blog ‘n Grog, Sprizzos, 363 W. Main St. in Waukesha. It’s not as hard to find your way around downtown Waukesha as it used to be, so come on out and grog.
– Saturday 3/7, 8:30 am-6 pm – Defending the American Dream – Wisconsin, Midwest Airlines Center, 400 W. Wisconsin Ave. in Milwaukee. My friends at AFP are once again bringing some good guests and great conservative topics together.
In addition, I’m still working on getting to CPAC. I cannot promise that one though.
H/T MK Ham
But I repeat myself…..
I can’t do better than the sarcasm the WSJ has already dripped on the Dems sudden love affair with Tax cuts…go read the article for yourself. Be careful, make sure you have an ace bandage tightly wrapped or your head will explode if you follow this link.
I’m pretty well burned out. I’ll be back when I’m a bit less toasty.
This could explain the euphoric attitude, not based in substance, held by so many Obama worshippers….oh wait, maybe it is based in substance!
