When Rush Limbaugh spends the first hour of his show crushing a candidate (Jim Geraghty has a multi–part liveblog), they stay crushed.
Guess Huckabee truly is a uniter (H/T via Jim – Brian Maloney) – “The good news for Mike Huckabee is that he’s doing one hell of a job of reuniting significant portions of the old Reagan coalition. The bad news is that it’s increasingly arrayed against him.”
Whether it stays together after the Huck-A-Bust is complete, nobody knows.
Revisions/extensions (1:12 pm 12/21/2007) – Jim asks whether it’s fatal. It’s the death blow that was never taught to Chuck Norris. Specifically to the guy from another campaign that brought up the Iowa pastors; there are a lot more parishoners than pastors, and the parishoners are a lot less forgiving.
The Christian right (and other fed up conservatives) are supporting Mike Huckabee, but the right’s pundits are not flocking to support him, and many of them are actually trying to derail him. Case in point:
Rush’s Hit-Piece on Huckabee (stick with it, audio of Rush)

The inexplicable anti-Huckabee sentiment in the elite wing of the Republican Party is unbelievable!! What is perhaps most baffling about the punditocracy taking potshots at Gov. Huckabee is that he has everything for which the anti-illegal immigration proponents have been calling and yet they still attack Huckabee for adopting the plan. Nothing Huckabee does can assuage these neocons who have no use for (us) genuine conservative’s who believes in social conservatism and populist policy.
Something is very very very very wrong with this picture. Bottom line: The best candidate for the Republican nomination is Huckabee.

One doesn’t have to be a Rockefeller Pubbie to determine that the Huckster is just that…a huckster.
He is a STATIST. So happens that a lot of RockyPubbies are also STATISTS (see, e.g., Rudy.)
Rush likes the WSJ brand of economics, which is a flaw. But he does NOT like the Statist brand of governance–see his erudite rips of GWB’s asinine signing of the recent Energy Bill, No Child, Medicaid expansions…
Thank God there is a Fred!

So you actually thought the Volvo-driving beltway Republican power elites and their marketing minions like Rush would continue to pander to the Religious Right, even when their Presidential darling wasn’t passing enough of the Party litmus tests?
My, you are naive.

Is that something like, “Resistance is futile?” Sorry; I’m not buying the statist manure Huckabee is selling.
Go ahead, stick with your favorite “career” politician and the status quo, but many of us don’t share your vision of getting ripped off for another 4-8 years. Not surprising the attacks on Huck. Now the common people, in the person of Huckabee, are threatening to take over, and the secular right doesn’t like it a bit.
