…well, not for me, because WordPress ROCKS! Today marks several changes:
– Michelle Malkin has joined the WordPress revolution to mark her third year in the blogosphere. ‘Tis a beautiful thing, even though the expanding categories and blogroll doesn’t quite display right in Internet Explorer 7 (it does beautifully in Firefox) it now works beautifully in IE as well, same with Safari per the webmaster.
– HamNation moves to the new Videos section at TownHall. To celebrate, she filmed the festivities at the dedication of the Victims of Communism Memorial.
– Sometime today, we are promised a new look to WTMJ, complete with RSS feeds and, at least on Sykes Writes, comments. It’s not live yet, but there’s about 5 hours left in their workday.
Revisions/extensions (6:53 pm 6/18/2007) – Still no relaunch of WTMJ’s site, but Jessica McBride has moved because she couldn’t enable comments – http://mcbridesmediamatters.blogspot.com (note the extra “s”). Please fix your blogrolls and feed readers accordingly.
The Blogroll and Categories dropdowns have been simplified so they work better in IE7 and Safari. Still not pixel-perfect, but we have someone working on it.
After the overwhelming success of Hot Air on WordPress, I think that it was the obvious platform choice for the MM.com relaunch. :-)
That works pretty well now with both IE and Firefox (can’t speak to Safari).
Many thanks.
Steve – On the new Malkin blog is it possible to read the blog entries without clicking the links?
HB
Through a feed reader? Since Michelle only offers excerpts through her feed (understandable because she wants you to view and ideally click on the ads), the only way to do that is if you have your feed reader pull up the whole thing. I can’t help there unless you’re using SharpReader; with SharpReader, open up the Properties box and in the AutoOpenLinks box, select “Always”.
Other than that, and her “featured” post on the front page, I can’t figure out how to get full entries without clicking on the link.
Side note; how did I become support for michellemalkin.com?
If that is the case, I postulate that Malkin’s blog has ceased to be a blog.
I blame Pajama’s Media. I will minimize my hits to her site, only reading the most interesting sounding pieces. Too bad, because I really liked to read her writing.
Google Reader only offers the headline.
She’s always done it that way (as does, say, Hot Air and the TownHall version of NRE, though I have no say in that). The pending return of comments (which she got rid of for the most part) makes MM.com more of a blog than it had been.
Steve – This sounds blogworthy. Stay tuned.
Question on the Sykes RSS feed – where is it? His blog URL is rejected by Google Reader as no feed available.
HB
There is a problem with the WTMJ feeds (actually, IMHO, 2). I don’t know which one is breaking Google Reader.
The first is they’re using RSS 0.92. They should really be using RSS 2.0 (it’s up to 2.0.9, but I haven’t seen anybody using that).
The second is they don’t have any descriptions. That isn’t a problem for me because SharpReader will open the page in its internal (IE) web browser if a particular post doesn’t have one (or if I tell it to, which I do if a particular blogger sends out only an excerpt).
