If you run WordPress on your own server, I recommend getting
WordPress 2.1. It has some cool features such as autosave, spell check (hey Aaron, this one’s for you!), and the newest version of Akismet.
One bit of a note; the 5-step process didn’t quite work for me. I had to delete all the old 2.0.7 files to get 2.1 working.
John asks a great question, why doesn’t WP add an auto updater? Oh well.
Guess there is one bug; Akismet drilled that comment as a spam.
As for “auto-updaters”, some of the hosting partners, like my old one (Yahoo) do offer the option of having them manage the updates. Only thing is, they take a while (in Yahoo’s case, it took a month for them to get the latest version live).
This was the first 5-step that didn’t work for me. Guess they were serious this time about deactivating the plugins.
