(H/T – Kevin)
The Spice Boys found out (item #2) that Peg Lautenschlager’s campaign committee gave a $2,000 to FightingBob.com in August as part of a deal to give $4,600 in campaign funds to non-profit organizations because the campaign received too much money from PACs in 2002.
I have a few questions:
- Why was the deal to donate to non-profit organizations rather than return the overage to the donors?
- How does FightingBob.com qualify as a tax-exempt non-profit organization when most of their content is political in nature?
- Doesn’t this entire episode expose the folly of campaign finance reform?
For the record, No Runny Eggs does not run advertising (though PollHost.com, my polling host, does run advertising on the “results” pages; once I get a better handle on my new host, I’ll more than likely host my own polls as well thanks to Patrick, I’m hosting my own polls) or have a donation link to avoid even the appearances of impropriety. When I praise or blast someone, I want you to know that it’s me speaking, not an advertiser or donor.
I am totally with you on this one Steve. I refuse to put ads on my Blog too. I don’t want anyone saying I am a paid shill for anyone (even thouugh the ads don’t pay enough to change opinions anyway). When I startrd out on the web, I and all of my internet friends used the free hosts (Tripod, Angelfire, Geocities etc.) and the big complaint was always the banner ads they put on the pages. When I decided to start paying for my own host, I made a pledge that I would not do advertisements. I pay for everything so it’s all mine, no questions asked, even though I could probably make a few bucks from my primary domain, it had 7.6 million hits last year, but I still prefer to be independent
My stance has been taken wrong by some in the past, it is not intended as a swipe against anyone that runs ads, this is just my personal quirk, I don’t want my pages to become distracting and slow loading because Google or another ad host is running slow, so I choose not to do it.
As for your poll Steve, WordPress has a cool little plug-in that allows you to host the poll your self, just upload the file to your plugins folder and add a line of code to your sidebar template and it’s all yours. This is the same one I run.
Wow, I was really typo-filled this morning, wasn’t I?
I wanna be a whore, but nobody’s buying. Would you consider advertising with me?
By the way, Wiggy’s Warehouse has some wonderful items for sale on Ebay.
