Getting through airports is bad enough. When you’re a consultant who travels for a living on the damn aluminum birds, this is more than a mere inconvenience. Standing in line for extra HOURS for someone to look at my drivers license and call a disembodied voice somewhere in the ether, to get an “approval code” to issue me a boarding pass is absolute nonsense!
Write your Congressperson! Have them tell the TSA to release Shoebox!

Yes, but the only people who SHOULD know who Shoebox is are those who were at the Cheddarsphere Christmas party and those that blog here, and except for the latter category, they only found out on Sunday.
Since the problems started Monday, we’re going to have to start an investigation on those who were there Sunday.
I think I might be on to something, so hear me out.
Airlines have been independently implementing the TSA Secure Flight procedure. That’s where you are required to match your ticket/boarding pass exactly to your ID name as well as provide a birth date. If you travel a lot, you probably use your frequent flyer sign in to do your booking. I’m thinking there’s something in that sign in that doesn’t match how you’re ticketed, and it’s throwing an alarm.
I’ve had a heck of time matching everything up because my passport has a wacko combo last name when my drivers license does not. When I want to use or accumulate frequent flier miles, I have to go into the profile, contact customer service, and get my last name changed based on whether or not I’m flying domestically or internationally. I’ve threated to just take my passport for all travel.
Anyway, my instinct says your problem lies somewhere between the airlines frequent flier information and how the ticket is matched.

That very thing got Joan Rivers tossed off a flight (though by the idiotic ticket agent and not by the TSA goon squad).
Thanks for the advice Cindy but my name is the same on everything I have. I’ll have to try another airline, maybe it’s just United but my sense is not. If it is airlines “freelancing” this is going to be an even bigger mess than they have today…how’d it work out for everyone after 9/11 with all the freelancing?
