Don’t count on it. But good politics? It’s a possibility if the GOP can demonstrate some beltway judo. Hope for the best, expect the worse, I say.

Also, I wouldn’t denigrate the benefits of medicinal marijuana. I’m writing from San Diego and got a doctor to give me a prescription for these deafening headaches I get after listening to Obama talk. Of course, I hear another popular cure for Obama is tea. /sarc

Iggy, you summerized the conversation Birdman and I had in that sentence. If the GOP avoid the Trap, I think this show will put Obama in an even more difficult light than it is today. He will likely again be chiding and look out of touch. If that happens, great!

Anyone who thinks some good policy will be foreged from this meeting is using the medicinal marijuana from California!

At the risk of eating my words in the near future, I think the GOP leadership deserves some credit for delaying the healthcare reform legislation long enough for the public to turn. I remember six months ago dreading our chances of stopping this apparent steamroller. Then came the townhalls, the tea parties, Scott Brown’s election, growing unemployment etc. I see BHAG as a double-edged sword for Obama as well as the GOP, centered on the public’s questioning Obama’s emphasis on healthcare when the economy should be his primary concern.

I think there is an opportunity for the GOP as well as danger. They can take the spotlight away from Obama, force him to deal with the looming entitlement bomb, as well as establish their own narrative. Some of the parts are already in place. Scott Brown for one. After all, he campaigned on starting over. There is Ryan’s entitlement road map. God knows it isn’t getting much publicity. This summit would be an ideal time to force Obama to deal with realities. And yes, I know I’m expecting too much but last year, the GOP was on its the way to joining the Whigs. Still, the great thing about being a pessimist, you’re rarely disappointed.
