There were 2 places where the State Fair Park Board really screwed this thing up, and not-so-coincidentally, both of them were when Doyle was around:

– In 2003, when they rashly fired Haas Racing and decided to run the track themselves. I’m not saying that Haas would have been able to turn a profit in 2003-2005, but I’ll guarantee that the losses wouldn’t have been $7 million over those 3 years.

– In 2005, when they equally-rashly (and that’s actually being charitable considering the crowd reaction in June) gave a no-experience outfit the contract under crushing conditions.
