It argued that a passenger railroad is not going to make any money, light rail can come close but probably not even then. Isn’t that why the gov’t took over Amtrak in the first place? Why aren’t the Vanderbilts still in passenger railroad?
But we need it. In case of emergency, we could really need the ability to move large numbers of people around the country.
It’s an insurance policy in case of disaster, if we need it, we’re gonna need it and it’ll be worth what we pay.
I’m not saying not to keep track, I am saying I could agree that we need to subsidize it.
I’d like to see arguments that it can be done profitably but I’m pretty sure no passenger railroad in the world makes money.
