Jefferson did have a declaration of authorization but no formal declaration of war. I just finished reading A Patriot’s History of the United States by Larry Schweikert, et al., and Schweikert went into detail about the Barbary Wars, even indicating we were indeed fighting Muslims as far back as the 18th century.

On a side note, take that likeness of Paul’s head from the Looney Tunes graphic and Photoshop it onto Mr. Peanut and get Mr Paulnut.

If memory serves, Jefferson had a Congressional declaration authorizing certain military actions short of a formal declaration of war against the Barbary pirates, and some privateers did have letters of marque and reprisal.

Response part 1 – If you think Iran cares about the concept of MAD, I’ll see if the state of Wisconsin will sell you the Hoan Bridge (hardly used, only almost-collapsed once).

Response part 2 – What roadblocks is America putting in the way of Israel taking care of Iran’s nuclear program now? Indeed, the Iraq war arguably paved the way to allow Israel to repeat the Orsik raid; I rather doubt Saddam Hussein’s Iraq would have taken kindly to an IAF flyover, and Israel does not have enough air-to-air refuelling aircraft to allow a detour around the rest of the countries that still have “Death to Israel” as their official foreign policy.

Response part 3 – If it’s not door #3 (and I didn’t say it was), is it ignorance of nuclear warfare or ignorance of history?

Bonus response – Do you or do you not agree with Paul when he said that at no time in America’s history was a military response to an attack warranted?

#1. Just because Iran wants to attak Israel doesn’t mean it can. Israel possess 300 nuclear weapons it would be Mutually Assured Destruction.

#2. Israel would bomb Iran before Iran acquired those missiles if the US minded its own business. Israel can take care of itself.

#3. How is he rooting for Israel’s destruction? He is a Christian and his brother is a PRIEST. He believes in Judeo-Christian JUST WAR theory invented by SAINT Augustine and SAINT Thomas Aquinas.
