LeMay was in budget hearings for nukes during the early &#039;60s.  The chairman was the late, great Sen. Everett (&quot;A billion here, a billion there, and pretty soon you&#039;re talking real money.&quot;) Dirkson.

Anyway, the exchange went something like this:

LeMay:  I need funding for X number of nuke warheads.
Dirkson:  General, you just told us that X/2 warheads would be enough to reduce the USSR to  cinders; why do you need more?
LeMay:  Senator, I want to see those cinders dance.

LeMay got the money.

Also reminds me of an old Tshirt I wore out.
