The repository of one hard-boiled egg from the south suburbs of Milwaukee, Wisconsin (and the occassional guest-blogger). The ramblings within may or may not offend, shock and awe you, but they are what I (or my guest-bloggers) think.Sun, 27 Nov 2005 07:22:00 +0000

Sun, 27 Nov 2005 07:22:00 +0000http://norunnyeggs.eggstor.com/?p=123#comment-75Let’s see; Doyle caused a bigger-than-expected increase in school property taxes (helped by school boards that don’t know the meaning of “financial restraint”) by underfunding the schools to pay off other campaign contributors while not asking said boards and WEAC to tighten their belts any. Then, after he submitted another budget that didn’t restore 2/3rds funding and contained all sorts of loopholes to let the school districts jack up taxes even higher (state aid being equal), and after the budget with all sorts of amendments was passed by the Legislature, he used a series of “creative” and probably unconstitutional partial vetoes to raid other funds to come up with a 1-year gimmick that just so happens to affect the last property tax bill before the 2006 election.
So, did you want to bet me on how much the school district portion of the December 2006 property tax bill will go up? I’ll take over 4.02%. And, for the record, I thought that Tommy Thompson’s idea to have the state fund 2/3rds of school spending was a stupid idea; fund transfers always, but ALWAYS end up in higher taxes.
