Even with that score, it’s looking more and more like DemonPass, a spawn sibling of DemonSheep, will rear its ugly horn.

For those of you who missed the lowlights of that plan, they’re going to take a pass on voting on the Senate version (partly because it is so toxic, SanFranNan can’t get to 216 with that bill as-is, partly because they can’t trust the Senate or Teh Won to hold up their ends of the bargain), instead working on Wreconcilation and stating that, if that gets 216, the leadership will stipulate that vote also applies to the Senate bill, even though that bill will never have been voted upon.

Bold prediction – if that gambit is used, the Supreme Court will strike down the entire thing before the end of 2011, and it won’t be a 5-4 vote.

The first thing to remember is that the Iranians have had a bit of a history of overstating technological achievements. However, given that the Mad Mullahs that run Iran see the US as the Great Satan and have vowed to extinguish both the US and Israel by every means available, it is prudent to treat the news as credible.

They claimed to have achieved 20% uranium-235 enrichment. That is far beyond what the typical reactor needs, though there are certain types of reactors that do use it, mostly Japanese- and Russian-design fast/breeder reactors. The Iranians claim to want to use it in a research reactor to produce medical isotopes; however, this appears to be the first time the existence of that “reactor” has been mentioned. Also, there are doubts on whether the Iranians can create fuel rods out of 20% ²³⁵U.

20% ²³⁵U enrichment also is significantly below the standard for nuclear weapons. However, it can be fashioned into a crude and huge weapon suitable for shipment in a transport container or cargo plane.

Beyond that, and the $300 million in additional spending and a $485 million tax hike on the majority of Wisconsinites with investments passed in the State Senate’s version of Daughter-of-Necrobudget last night (via JSOnline), I’ve got nothing. Go ahead and fill in the blanks.

Revisions/extensions (8:15 am 6/18/2009) - For those of you outside of Wisconsin (and for those of you who forgot how capital gains in Wisconsin works), Wisconsin currently treats capital gains far differently than the federal government treats capital gains. Instead of classifying capital gains as short-term (less than 1 year of holding the property), medium-term (between 1 and 5 years of holding the property) and long-term (more than 5 years of holding the property) and taxing each group at a separate rate, Wisconsin takes 40% of all capital gains and taxes it at the highest applicable income tax bracket. What the State Senate did, instead of going for a oil company tax. was take the proposal from Doyle, the Joint Finance Committee and the Assembly Democrats to tax 60% of capital gains and make it 100% taxable. I believe Nevada is calling.
