The Morning Scramble – 8/1/2008

by @ 11:29 on August 1, 2008. Filed under The Morning Scramble.

I warned you way back when that this was not a daily feature. Sorry about missing the last 2 days; here’s some Def Leppard from when they kicked arse (instead of teaming up with Tim McGraw) to make up for that…

  • Headless Blogger finds Barack Obama’s gas “plan” of speed-limit enforcing (as if I’ll slow down barring repeated speed traps) and proper tire inflation (which I actually believe in; low-pressure tires are the #1 cause of BadYear blowouts in NASCAR) helpful, if a bit underwhelming.
  • Mary Katharine Ham says that it’s not the heat, it’s the vapidity.
  • Allahpundit caught the DNC ripping off the Leave Brittney Alone guy.
  • Bill Quick has the definitive answer to that.
  • Slublog joins the growing list of “racists” in style. If only I had thought to do a Photoshop of the local lefty “brain trust” as they missed the mark a while back,….
  • Kate plays “Know Your Candidate, Obamination Edition”.
  • Kyle-Anne Shiver thanks God for Obama’s inept candidacy. If only 45-55% of those that can be bothered to vote weren’t Kool-Aid drinkers,….
  • C. Edmund Wright found yet another new federal program supported by Obama – reparations. Welfare by any other name….
  • Elliot has some tech questions for Obama and Newsweek columnist Obamination campaign staffer Anna Quindlen.
  • Ed Morrissey has some sticker shock for those of you going to St. Paul to blog the GOP convention. Sean, you might want to fold that sticker shock into your fundraising blegs.
  • Geoff proves once again that, given removal of incentives to come and stay here, illegal aliens will stop coming and start self-deporting.
  • Doubleplusundead cheers Congress taking bipartisan steps to reassert its responsibility over the District of Columbia and enforce the 2nd Amendment. It is fitting that he gave the hat tip to a place called Snowflakes in Hell, because that’s precisely what is happening.
  • Michelle Malkin proves that “free” health care is all about the politics, as the ‘Rats are attacking Sen. Tom Coburn for not charging for baby deliveries. I’ll bet they wouldn’t care if he were performing free abortions, even though he is a Pubbie.
  • Nate Beeler pictures the Bridge to Nowhere.
  • Brent J highlights an interview John Gard (Pubbie candidate in the 8th Congressional here in Wisconsin) did with CQ Politics.
  • Bill Quick cheers a potential breakthrough in the production of hydrogen, using nothing but the sun, water, cobalt, phosphate, and an electrode. Faster, please!
  • Charles Krauthammer asserts that the ‘Rat no-drill policy is harming the planet, as countries that care less for proper drilling techniques than American oil companies increase their drilling.
  • B.C. the Imperial Torturer notes the ice keeps on building up around the Arctic Circle. In the hilarious tour de force, he sets a new record for uses of the ™ symbol, so go read it already.
  • Lady Logician asks which number was higher in the 2nd quarter of 2008 – ExxonMobil’s profits or ExxonMobil’s tax liability. I won’t quite spoil the answer, but one was nearly three times as high as the other.
  • John Hawkins notes that the Congressional ban on drilling will expire on 10/1. LET THERE BE GRIDLOCK!
  • XBradTC finds some troop-friendly uses for dirt. I didn’t know a properly-filled sandbag could stop an AK-47 round at point-blank range.
  • Kat found a Congresscritter who introduced a bill to house all the “guests” at Club Gitmo on Supreme Court grounds. I am serious, and don’t call me Shirley.
  • Just in case you missed it, Jim Hoft didn’t miss the fact that July 2008 was the least-deadly month for US troops in Iraq since February 2003 and for Iraqi civilians since December 2005. Paging Mr. Kagen. Paging Mr. Obama. Please pick up the reality check.
  • Geoff found another ‘Rat who has yet to have a dose of reality; the one that’s but 2 heartbeats from the Oval Office.
  • Heather Radish has the football quote of the day. I only wish it were a Packer who uttered it, but Wile E. Thompson (mud) has sucked the fun out of the team.
  • Dr. Melissa Clouthier breaks out the world’s smallest violin for the sexist whiners of the blogosphere. If the blogosphere were sexist, would I have Melissa, or Mary Katharine, or Kate, or Heather, or Lady Logician, or Katie Favazza, or Dagney Taggert, or (well, I think you get the idea) on the bloated roll, my feed reader, and in the Scramble on a regular basis?
  • James Wigderson wonders whether Hollywood’s leading actors and actresses will practice the liberal mantra it preaches. Since liberalism on the rich end is about shutting off access to the club for the nearly-rich, I’ll bet not.
  • Speaking of oh-so-compassionate liberals, Jib notes that the ones that tried to shut down the Badger Blog Alliance via the oft-abused Blogger “abuse” feature failed.
  • Brian summarizes some basic conservative beliefs. I’m going to miss him in the blogosphere as he announced his retirement from blogging.
  • Ed Driscoll chronicles the latest example of the decline and fall of Canada – 35 people stood by as a thug repeatedly stabbed, beheaded and gutted a human on a Greyhound bus (emphasis added for the benefit of the local lefty “brain trust”).
