No Runny Eggs

The repository of one hard-boiled egg from the south suburbs of Milwaukee, Wisconsin (and the occassional guest-blogger). The ramblings within may or may not offend, shock and awe you, but they are what I (or my guest-bloggers) think.

And here comes the flop on Obama and drilling

by @ 19:12. Filed under Energy, Politics - National.

(H/T – Owen)

Remember when Barack Obama said he would support the “Gang of 10″‘s plan to potentially open up drilling off of the coasts of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia? CNN reports the clock has just struck midnight on that statement:

“I made a general point about the fact that we need to provide the American people some relief and that there has been constructive conversations between Republicans and Democrats in the Senate on this issue,” he said during a press conference in Cape Canaveral.

“What I will not do, and this has always been my position, is to support a plan that suggests this drilling is the answer to our energy problems,” Obama added….

Just in case you don’t think this is a full flip-flop, CNN also included some previous comments on offshore drilling in the story:

“When I’m president, I intend to keep in place the moratorium here in Florida and around the country that prevents oil companies from drilling off Florida’s coasts,” Obama told reporters in Jacksonville in late June. “That’s how we can protect our coastline and still make the investments that will reduce our dependence on foreign oil and bring down gas prices for good.”

As the vacationing Jim Geraghty says, “All statements by Barack Obama come with an expiration date. All of them.

Revisions/extensions (7:20 pm 8/2/2008) – I added some explanation to prove that it is a full flip-flop from Obama. I wonder what the Obamination Express runs on; I sure hope it isn’t a petrochemical, because it sure seems to be doing a lot of u-turns and back-ups.

The Morning Scramble – 8/2/2008

I wish I were already on vacation, but that’s not until Wednesday…

This should be short, but it definitely won’t be sweet…

  • Matt Burden clarifies a few things about the abortive Barack Obama visit to Landstuhl.
  • Martin gives Obama a big, fat F in Economics 101 for his “Emergency Economic Plan”.
  • He does beat the folks at IBD; they provide further explanation for that failing grade.
  • The Vintage one laughs at the idiots at MoveOn.org for being caught flat-footed by Obama’s Barack-track on an absolute ban on off-shore drilling. Somebody, please remind me to fire a few salvos at that later today, starting with the fact that a single properly-placed hurricane would threaten almost all of what Obama is now reluctantly open to opening up.
  • American Pundit found some rather curious locations of donations to the Obamination campaign. I could’ve swore that foreign nationals were prohibited from donating to election campaigns.
  • The Vintage one reposts Sarah Palin’s view on the role of the Vice President, and then contrasts that to John McCain’s. Did I mention there are pictures involved (and not of McCain or the Vintage one)?
  • Bruce Walker outlines the Three Drills To Victory plan for McCain’s benefit.
  • Mark Tapscott bemoans the missed opportunity of the too-short House GOP energy revolution.
  • Kevin Fischer provides more evidence we are bass-ackwards here in the land of cheese and beer; while the Hugh Gubmint types are tripping over themselves to raise taxes (specifically, sales taxes), other states, and the District of Columbia are having sales-tax holidays. I guess they didn’t check with the Obamination.
  • Jon Ham praises WalMart for participating in politcs to the extent the unions are.
  • Glenn Reynolds declares NBC News a bigger joke than Jay Leno after Leno beat the NBC Nightly News in ratings.

  • The Oh-So-Tolerant Left Watch – Jim Hoft mentions the animal rights moonbats want to decapitate the 11-year-old who bagged Hogzilla. I wonder if they got the idea from the Islamokazis, or the thug up in Canada noted in yesterday’s Scramble.

Big Trouble In Little Blogger

by @ 8:57. Filed under The Blog.

If the IE problems exposed by Sitemeter weren’t enough, Blogger is once again having a major malfunction. Over the last couple days, many blogs, from Badger Blog Alliance to Folkbum’s Rambles and Rants, have suffered the wrath of an out-of-control Blogger, and their members have been blocked by Google from putting up new posts as they have been dumped into the Google/Blogger “splog” file.

At first, I thought this was an extension of the war against the PUMAs that happened the other week, mainly because my feed reader is highly right-centric (self-preservation is an honorable goal, after all), and the that’s where I noted the problems. However, the reports are starting to come in that the left end of the blogosphere is also being heavily-affected. Once again, a technology I left behind (more or less; The Bar is still a Blogger/Sitemeter place) has demonstrated an Epic FAIL.

Hopefully everybody will get the splog lock lifted quickly.

The New Obama Dance..The Flip and Hedge

by @ 5:01. Filed under Energy.

After looking foolish attempting to explain that the surge didn’t cause the increased security in Iraq, Barack Obama has learned that when you have no core beliefs and are forced to change a position to get elected, you need to make sure that you hedge your changes to keep maintain plausible deniability on the issue with your radical base.

After telling us numerous times that he was against any increased oil drilling, today, Barack waffled on the topic.   When discussing  a new proposal put together by a bipartisan group of Congressmen Barack said:

“‘If, in order to get that passed, we have to compromise in terms of a careful, well thought-out drilling strategy that was carefully circumscribed to avoid significant environmental damage – I don’t want to be so rigid that we can’t get something done,’ Obama said.”

Obviously Barack has seen that McCain’s closing in the national polls is as much about McCain’s position on energy as it is people’s concern about the Obama “risk” factor, hence his change.

“Don’t want to be rigid?” He’s giving cooked spaghetti a bad name he’s so “flexible” on his positions.

As I mentioned, Barack hedged his flexibility with:

“‘I think it’s important for the American people to understand we’re not going to drill our way out of this problem,’ he said. ‘It’s also important to recognize if you start drilling now you won’t see a drop of oil for ten years, which means its not going to have a significant impact on short-term prices. Every expert agrees on that.'”

I think Barack’s hedge let the Dem’s cat out of the bag.

Barack and the Dems know that they are behind the eight ball with energy. They will be forced to accept some form of an energy compromise, prior to the election, to mollify the strong public sentiment on the issue. However, just because they agree to the bill, doesn’t mean that they will take the next step and clear the decks so that stupid, inane, time wasting and meant to intentionally block, lawsuits, from the Dem’s leftest compatriots, are prevented. Of course not.

Barack, Harry and Nancy will do what they consider politically expedient for the election and then conspire with the Envirowhacko portion of their base to ensure that not “a drop of oil for ten years.”
