RedState.com is having a contest

by @ 18:16. Filed under Politics - National.

In response to this WaPo article stating that the Pubbies expect to lose 7-30 seats in the House (note; if they lose 15, we have Speaker Nancy Pelosi), RedState.com is having a little contest. For the next 18 hours, RedState.com wants your reasons why the Pubbies should be re-elected in 2006. The winner will get a 1-year subscription to the Limbaugh Letter, as Rush’s response was the inspiration behind this.

To get you started, I’ll repost my entry (not that I expect to win):

Contrary to popular belief, the Democrats do have an agenda for 2006:

– Raise taxes
– Emasculate the military and intelligence agencies
– Restore Saddam Hussein to power
– Implement universal government health care
– Prevent any appointments to the federal courts the next 2 years
– Conduct a “Constitutional” coup

Beyond that, a Democrat victory in 2006 will make their agenda for 2008, turn the US into France without the nuclear power plants, closer to reality.

I turned off comments for a reason; you can’t win by posting here. I probably will turn them on sometime after 1:30 pm tomorrow when they close the contest.

Revisions/extensions (8:26 pm 10/11/2006); no I didn’t win, but the comments are now open here.

For those going to Drinking Right tonight…

…and coming from the northwest side/suburbs, JSOnline’s DayWatch is reporting that northbound US45 will be closed at Florist Ave. Silver Spring Dr. (the last exit before Florist; they need some map readers at the 4th Estate/5th Column at 4th and State) at 10 pm tonight and the 2 following nights to repair girders on the Florist bridge.

My recommended route around that from Papa’s: Take Burleigh to 92nd St., turn right and follow that (it will turn into 91st St just north of Hampton Ave.) to Appleton Ave. Turn left there, and follow US41 onto US45.

Do not, repeat, DO NOT go all the way to Hwy 100/Mayfair Rd. That will only take you as far as the Silver Spring on-ramp, which will be closed, and ultimately Florist and the southern frontage road for Appleton. If you’re stupid enough to ignore my advice above and choose Hwy 100, at least remember this bit of advice; turn right and go to Appleton, not left. A left at Silver Spring will force you to go all the way to Lily Rd. and ultimately Good Hope Rd. If you can even make the left at Florist (remember, that’s the bridge the DOT will be working on), fuggedaboudit.

Cheddarsphere league wrapup – Week 5

by @ 16:52. Filed under Miscellaneous.

Spiraling Colby 113.08 (4-1, 546.76), Vast Conspirator 59.42 (2-3, 411.35) – The only team to put up triple digits every week used yet another masterful performance by Donovan McNabb (27.68) to overcome an off-night by LaDanian Tomlinson (7.00) and end the Conspiracy. The good news for the Conspirators, Jacksonville scored 26.00; the bad, nobody else topped 10; the ugly, the primary victim of the Jags, Chad Pennington, went negative (-0.38).

TheDebateTeam 87.92 (5-0, 532.46), Caledonia Bloggers 74.20 (1-4, 353.58) – The Debaters used a balanced attack of 5 players in double-digits, led by Peyton Manning’s 19.12 and Carolina’s 18.00 to remain the only undefeated team. The Bloggers also had 5 players in double-digits, led by Tom Brady’s 18.50.

Warriors 77.82 (3-2, 407.01), No Bid Contracts 67.60 (2-3, 409.38) – Despite two Warriors not coming out to play (Rudi Johnson and Alge Crumpler), the remainder picked up the slack, led by Deuce McAllister’s 19.10. That last fumble by team-leader Brett Favre (13.90) helped kill the Contracts.

Killer Boars 82.20 (3-2, 430.59), Highway Runners 79.15 (1-4, 379.74) – Fred Taylor (20.30) ran wild for the Boars, as they used the weather in Denver to help hold off the Runners. Finally activating Robbie Gould and getting his 19.00 on the scoreboard didn’t help the Runners, as the supporting cast failed to do much of anything.

Right Wing Wackos 84.47 (2-3, 421.14), Sanders’ Sabers 78.97 (4-1, 477.24) – Maurice Jones-Drew (17.90) and Drew “Hurricane” Brees (14.37) led the Wackos to a comeback upset victory over the Sabers. Eli Manning (17.47) could not overcome the continued benching of Anthony Thomas (0.00).

City Workers 78.40 (3-2, 414.89), teach3 70.25 (1-4, 426.04) – Chester Taylor (15.40) and Jake Delhomme (14.30) led a workman-like performance over the depleted Teachers, as Cincinnati had a bye. Byron Leftwich’s 17.25 couldn’t overcome the disadvantage.

Week 6 preview – Spiraling Colby @ Warriors – This one’s gonna get bloody. For me, LaDanian Tomlinson looks to get back on track against a poor Niners’ defense, Terry Glenn and Lee Evans are licking their chops. Meanwhile, the Warriors are countering with Javon Walker hoping for better weather and Ladell Betts set to high-step all over the Titans.

Craps Tax Anti-Freeze sublimation, year 2, Spring City Edition

by @ 16:19. Filed under Politics - Wisconsin, Taxes.

(H/T – Mike)

Jim "Craps" Doyle (WEAC/Potawatomi-For Sale), as quoted by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in July 2005 – ""˜The result of the freeze that I will sign will be that the average property tax on the average home will not go up at all next year, and will actually go down $5′ in December 2006."

Headline in today’s Waukesha Freeman – Waukesha eyes 2007 tax increase – Includes hikes in worker health payments; average homeowner pays $55 more in taxes next year

Did anybody expect any different out of either Doyle or Comrade Nelson? As Mike points out, that’s also a 5% levy increase in an era of 3% inflation. Dunno what the WCTC or Waukesha School Board is doing (that’s Mike’s and James’ department), but I highly doubt that the Craps Pledge will hold true out there in the Spring City.

Remember this when you go to the polls November 7.
